Memory lane is lined with broken glass that reflects the past in glittering bits with sharp edges, that cut you with every step. You bleed, you remember, and are happy to be in the now. LKH

It's not merely happiness we all seek. We search for someplace where we belong. For the lucky few, we find that place in childhood with our families, but for most of us we spend our adult lives seeking that place, or person, that makes us feel that we are important, that we matter, and that without us something would go undone and undoable. We all need to feel that we are irreplaceable. LKH

You know a horror movie is a good one, when you need to watch something happier, before bed, because otherwise you think maybe there might be some nightmares. "The Woman in Black" based on the book by the same name, and staring Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame was such a movie. It is a true horror story, not a slasher flick, or a grotesquerie, but a ghost story told in full blown Gothic horror style. Warning: Do not think just because "Harry Potter" is in the movie, it's safe for kids, because it's not. Damn movie scared me, and I didn't show it to my kid, so I'm not recommending it for yours.

Jon and I are now watching one of our "feel good" movies to cleanse the palette of our imaginations so we can sleep without letting the movie haunt our dreams. What feel good movie are we watching? S.W.A.T. 2003 starring Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, and Michelle Rodriguez. Because sometimes you just need to shoot shit up, and play cops and robbers.

It is only in the darkest of nights, at the moment when we know true despair, that our star shines brightest and leads us onwards, because when the sun shines and we are happy, we do not look for stars.

Because it's a theme this week:

The new Merry Gentry novel, A Shiver of Light, is haunted for me. It's taken me a long time to realize that this book is hitting more of my own personal issues than any one I've ever written.

By 3:00AM last night I had twenty-five pages and was happily exhausted, but today I hit another ghost from my own past and I'm back to struggling again. But I've learned a lot about myself, and the past issues that still have more of a hold on me than I thought, sometimes you have to embrace your pain to heal it.

I'm back to writing, another long night ahead. Merry's personal demons and mine seem to be holding hands and trying to tap dance all over our hearts. Enough of this! Let's go demon hunting.
