Introducing you to Media Minion Jess. She will be handling some of the posting on Facebook and Twitter so that Laurell can continue spending quality time with her muse writing more of the stories we all love. Jess will do her best to answer your questions and comments and keep you all up to date with news and information from Laurell.

I promised myself when I finished the newest Merry Gentry novel, A Shiver of Light, that I'd let myself write anything I wanted to write next. I'd let my muse play. I just finished 6 pages of a new short piece, set in a brand new world. It surprised me by bridging to pages I wrote months ago, so my short story maybe a one shot novelette, but either way it was fun to throw myself off the creative cliff and build my parachute on the way down. (I think I'm paraphrasing Ray Bradbury.)

Don't worry, I'm not abandoning Anita Blake, but for today I just let myself go where the muse dictated. It was a rush to just let myself write and not care where it went, or what it was, or . . . to create for the joy of creating. Sometimes a writer needs to go for a walk off the beaten path, so we can come back to our beloved characters and worlds with a refreshed eye, and a new sense of wonder.

Some words are carved out of air, others from fire, some drowned you in watery weeping, & others feel carved of flesh, like a blood sacrifice to the muse.

30 pages for the day in three sessions of 12, 13, & 5. Still not completely out of this section of plot. Was hoping to finish before bed, but I give, need dinner, but the muse & I have played happily today. I still got to have lunch with my husband, Jon, and went to MMA class. Also, Dancing, the new Anita Blake e-special came out today! Thanks for all the great comments, everyone! Glad you are all enjoying it!

You can order Dancing from Amazon or Barnes & Noble

To top the day off I was in Jennie Breeden’s comic, The Devil’s Panties

This has been a wildly productive & truly awesome day!

A day of working on the new Merry Novel, A Shiver of Light. I finished copy edits on a brand new Anita novella yesterday. Did I mention I was working on copyedits? The title for the novella is, Dancing.

My muse seems to have hit overdrive lately. Ideas, some Anita, some Merry, some brand new - short stories, novels, and every size in between. I used to joke that to write all the ideas I had I'd need to live to be at least two hundred, but at this rate more like three hundred. *laughs* But even I'm amazed at this new out pouring of creativity. So many cool ideas, new worlds, new characters, new thoughts. It's almost as if everything I went through this year has unleashed me, and set me free to explore everything.

Writers are by nature solitary creatures. Throwing most of us out into the celebrity circus is like digging a mole out of its burrow. We don't know what to do above ground & we really just want to be left alone to create in the dark & putter in privacy.
