I'd argue that it's sort of like Vietnam - we've invested so much in the series, especially Anita, that we don't want to get out because any day it might turn. We're down the rabbit hole and digging to the otherside is easier than climbing out.
Secondly, it's fun and a way to cope. I really used to like this series because Anita was kickass, etc. [by this point I think everybody knows the main reasons it was a good series] and to see it slowly being ruined wasn't nice, so snark because it's fun and it keeps me involved with the series so I won't miss the good bits - fewer and fewer these days.
