I think that the biggest mistake LKH has made (outside of going crazy and not writing anything interesting ever) was to hire Darla.
I mean, sure, there are negative reactions out there and she feels she needs to defend LKH and the series, but it's damaging to tell people not to read the books instead of trying to convince LKH to make a change based on the negative feedback.
For example, how horrible would it be for, say, McDonald's revenue if when people talked about how awful the food is for your health, they responded by saying, "If you don't like the food, then don't eat here," on their website and a thousand banner ads? It's really stupid.
At the very least, LKH needs somebody who will present a consistent message to the public, so that regardless of the crappy content, the LKH camp is all still enthusiastic about the books.
