I just now remembered this - Holly Black's book Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale is also a pretty good urban fantasy take on the idea 'what if faeries were real', and she has written two more books set in the same universe - Valiant and Ironside. I can't technically recommend Valiant, but that's the only one of the three that I haven't read, and I was impressed by both of the others.
