Blogflogging: an experiment [READ!]

Blogflogging is pretty much what [livejournal.com profile] lkh_lashouts was built on, but even in the days when this comm. was small, there was no perfect way to do it—and that's exceedingly obvious now. The "no repeats" rule was put in place to avoid having 10 posts that all basically said the same thing, but that rule is unfair in some ways: people who are at work/school/wherever (i.e., not necessarily at a computer) miss out on blog entries and, instead of waiting a week or two to reflog, many will just skip it entirely or leave a comment.

Meet [livejournal.com profile] blogfloggery. It's our resident sock puppet, operated by a crack team of Lashouts members who met certain criteria: living in different time zones (to allow for better coverage), ability to cut and paste, and . . . yeah. That's pretty much it. It's not a fancy gig, but those at [livejournal.com profile] blogfloggery are helping me try out a new blogflogging system.

Before I go on, I will stress that this is a trial run. If it's evident that this system does not work, the mods are totally game for other solutions. Details, ahoy!

Start date: September 15, 2008
End date: October 15, 2008 (although if the system works, it may be continued)

How it will work: Individual members won't put up blogflogs as individual entries starting on September 15. Instead, someone at [livejournal.com profile] blogfloggery will post the entries from the LKH blogfeed* to [livejournal.com profile] lkh_lashouts, and people can flog in the comments, as many do already. This way, it gives people who are late to the entry more of a chance to participate.

* = This will not replace the RSS feed. If an entry is just about signing appearance dates or something, we won't post it. We will only post floggable entries. Of course, what's considered "floggble" is subjective, so if we've missed one you're interested in commenting on, send a PM to [livejournal.com profile] blogfloggery with the relevant blog link, and we'll let you know whether we think it's floggable or not.

General community rules still apply to the comment section. Also, until the FAQ is amended (more on that in another post), some blogflogging rules are also going to be amended:
- Don't focus overly much on her spelling and grammar. Yes, we know she doesn't grasp the difference between "loose" and lose", but unless it makes for an exceptional reinterpretation, it's getting old.
- No more snark about physical appearance. Some people have gotten too insensitive in regards to Laurell's weight, and that's nearing a line I don't think this community ought to cross. You can snark about fashion sense or make-up, but leave weight and physical features out of it. (That applies to Jon, Darla, et al. too.)

[livejournal.com profile] blogfloggery needs icons! Leave your mark on the blogflogs by making icons for the community. You'll be credited, of course. Keep the icons within reasonable good taste (translation: if you aren't sure, ask), and send them to the gmail address in the profile. NB: It would be nice if these icons were exclusively for [livejournal.com profile] blogfloggery, so if you're entering an icon, please don't make it one that's available for public use.

If have questions, please ask either here or at the gmail address. And remember: this isn't necessarily permanent. If we've had a week of trial runs and it's just not working, the mods will think of another method to try, but at least give it a chance.
