I know, right? It's like they're all "omg don't be attracted to me!" but are also shocked and insulted by the idea that you aren't. They want you to like them, yet they don't. It's crazy. At least my female friends feel less slighted by my lack of interest when they realize just what kind of girls that I prefer--namely, ones they wouldn't want to look like most of the time. Of course, then I get loads of jokes about "Oh, so you're the girl? I always thought you wanted to be the boy!" and I'm just like "...god, if I didn't love you guys so much I'd hate you."

...okay, rambling. But yeah, I know what you mean, and it drives me crazy.
