In a book that's supposed to take place in our world I agree that hair that's excessively long, and a lack of variety is a symptom of bad writing. If she wants to write her ideal and fantasies, she just shouldn't act like she is a serious writer of genre fiction. She is a fantasy-fulfillment writer at this point.
