That's a good point. If she could condense the bullshit Anita's putting her world through into, say, four books instead of- what's it been now, 14? Then it would be worth it. As it is, I would still be shocked, but unless Hamilton were to drop the secret plot bomb in the next book, it wouldn't be a worthwhile gamble on her part. She's lost too much respect and too many readers for anyone to take even this explanation seriously, I think.
