The snippet hints at something really cool. JC caring about his workers, some old fashioned manners and values, even JC as a mentor to Nathaniel, and as much of a protector as the circumstances allowed him to be. JC seeing a boy who reminded him of himself, and helping him like he wished he'd been helped.

It sure would have been nice to see some of this in the gajillion books we've had before now.
