"dick" and "pussy" get thrown around A LOT in the book as insults or in conversations that are derogatory, although (shocker) she does actually use the word "cock" as well, once, but it's not during a sex scene.

I try to avoid using "dick" just because I hate the way it sounds, and because it gets used in way too many insults.

I agree with you it seems to trivialize the scene and the sentence would have been okay without it.
