One of my favorite moments from the books I actually liked involved Anita trying to wash blood out of her plush penguins. It was a small, humanizing detail that felt very "real life" even though no one in real life needs to clean up from a zombie attack. I haven't read past Narcissus in Chains but those details were missing by the time I gave up and based on the sporks I've read they haven't come back...
