Her former editor (I don't know what her exact position was) retired recently, at about the same time LKH was shuffled to Penguin's romance division. I do not think romance editors are nearly as likely to put up with LKH's crap, especially when she's not selling like she used to. Romance is the biggest pond in publishing, and LKH might be finding out she's a much smaller fish than she thought.
