It's kinda hard when she's ready to go...

So, we know Merry = Anita in a red wig, but what about the guys? Which of Merry's men equate with Anita's Acolytes?

I'm thinking Galen matches up pretty well with Micah - pretty little yes-men who'd do/say anything to keep Merry/Anita happy on account of Tru Luv.

Frost = Asher (for me) - both suitably angsty, tortured and in constant need of reassurance from someone that they're pretty and loveable, honest.

I'd say Nicca matched up with Nathanial - both young (or young-seeming), vulnerable and seemingly passive but both become all RRWOARSEXORGASM in bed.

Anyone got anymore? I've been thinking about this all day.

Doyle=JC...both strong men who are in control, who slowly become pussy whipped the further the books go along.

That was my first thought too!

Don't remind me. I think the pod!Doyle was one of the most disappointing and eraging things that LKH has done in either series to any character - so far anyway.

Eh, Kitto always seemed more Nathaniel to me.

I peg Sholto as a blend of Damian and Asher - though, more Asher than anything. The Damian part comes from ID where it looks like LKH pastede in Damian's A) penis desription and B) wangst about, "Omg, Anita may never sleep with me again" straight from Sholto in KoS.

But I can't fault you on Galen or your Frost logic.

Given how warped Merry's POV is, I really wanna write Cel fic, and while he might still be crazy...he wouldn't be stupid about it. And while yes, he has to get a girl pregnant, Andias never specified A) with whom, or B) how. And somehow, still have time left over to plot ways to bring down Merry's reputation, ruin her utterly and once she's publically humiliated, personally kill her - or Plan B, pay an assassin.

Or Andias fic. She...couldn't possibly be halfway near as batshit as Merry makes her out to be. She's the freakin' Unseelie Queen - you don't...really get to be there by being as batshit or stupid as what I've been reading.

I know! The mind doth boggle at how LKH goes out of her way to force sex as the only solution to anything on everyone.

Something to remember for everyone still at school: LKH says sex is the answer to everything, it must be SO! So when you're asked what the capital of Norway is, you can reply with pride, "SEX!"

[identity profile] mneiai.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I know he said it because he was crazy-mad at the one point, but wasn't there something later on that actually made it sound like if Cel wanted to still be King, he'd have to get Merry pregnant? I could have sworn there was something like that, since she mentioned fearing it more than once.

[identity profile] dwg.livejournal.com 2006-10-06 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, at the end of KoS when Cel was caught out giving Branwyn's Tears to mortals, he was meant to spend a year covered in the stuff and it was meant to have driven him crazy-go-nuts and he was last yelling that he was gonna fuck Merry...but I'm going to write that off as the oil talking.

Though, really, a year covered in horny-oil? He might get fed up with his hand, but dude, I don't think it'd make people go that crazy-go-nuts.

Then again, the idea that he'd make good on his promise and then have her executed does has its appeal.

*de-lurks*

[identity profile] marumae.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh but from what I remember wasn't he chained up during this sentence of being covered by horny oil? Hence unable to satisfy himself and no one was allowed to touch him? I thought the ideas was NO ONE was supposed to touch him and give him release...then again it has been a while so...

Can I second that? It's such a good point that Andias can not possibly be as stupid as Merry claims.

*drowns in fic* But I'll leave myself a note - in a notebook, the post-its aren't anywhere near the computer right now - for later. So one day, it will get done. ;)

Nah, Galen is Jason - the dick in a glass case who Merita will Never Ever Consider as a serious mate. I'm willing to bet that good ol' Mistral "Ride My Storm" [insert last name here] is the Micah proxy - his intro in the last book was very deus sex machina a la Micah's shower scene.

[identity profile] dwg.livejournal.com 2006-10-06 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I figured Rhys was more Jason - he's a little bit more hip to the jive and has an adorable streak going for him.

Gyah! I'm dreading reading about Mistral. I really, really am.

On ponderances, I'm thinking that Griffen is kinda Richardly, given that HE dumped MERRY because she wasn't Sidhe enough and blah blah blah. *eyes glaze over* He's probably a mad cool character, too. Specially since his one appearance in KoS, he was written like a fairy cowboy.

Nice comparisons!

[identity profile] salveo-opes.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
This should happen more often! Look at what you came up with. *g*

Don't they appreciate your brilliance?

They should! LOL

LOL

Good one!

Waitwaitwaitasecond here. I've never read the Merry books, but did you say Galen? As in, the old Galen Gancomer legend? Also known as The Love Talker, in folklore? Is the name just a coincidence, or did she yoink him into her idiot twativerse and completely fuck him up?

[identity profile] coffeehouse.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
she yoinked him in.
he is not who he should be.

[identity profile] ellenel13.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I figured Frost = Richard because he's the one always trying to get Merry's attention the hardest. Also, he's like the third part of the love triangle. In the two Merry books I read, she's always saying how she wants either Doyle or Frost to impregnate her because they'd make the best kings.

I didn't write the books and i certainly remember thinking that Anita should not be sleeping with Galen if she knew he knew nothing of the intrigues in court. Er, Merry I mean.

[identity profile] mneiai.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
In LKH's mind Richard probably equals that ex-fiance guy of hers (totally don't have my books and can't remember his name).

[identity profile] darksongtrilogy.livejournal.com 2006-10-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I had this all worked out back in the day.

JC=Doyle. I think this is generally agreed in the fandom. Minor wangst! issues, but nothing serious, and they're generally the most controlled and together of the two series.

Frost=Richard. Seriously. Frost is going to end up the same way Richard did. They both want Merita solely, unconditionally, no sharing, and they're getting the crap kicked out of them for it. I don't get a lot of the "am I pretty?" vibe from Frost. He knows damn well he's pretty and is arrogant about it. His issue is sharing Merita, the same as Richard. And crying. Which makes me want to kill LKH over and over again.

Sholto=Asher. Sholto was the one that was all torn up that he's too inhuman or freaky for the average sidhe because of his Nightflyer heritage. (How bad is it that I remember all this?) Both of these characters are founded on their problems with their physical appearance. Their personalities are absolutely defined by it.

Galen=Micah. Both of them are short, wimpy yes-men whose sole purpose in life is to please Merita. Galen's got much less of a shot than Micah the Wonderdick has, so I'm thinking--if I can force myself to read Mistral's Kiss, which is in serious doubt--that Mistral might take over the Micah position. Either way, it's the male character that with no discernable effort, attractiveness, strength, or intelligence and in spite of a former love and long history with the other boyfriends wins Merita's heart 4 eva. GODDAMN THAT LITTLE PANTYWAIST MICAH.

Kitto=Nathaniel. This always seemed utterly obvious to me. Two useless, child-like "males" that are there on Merita's sufference and who have a mother/son relationship with her, which creeps me ten ways from Sunday. Especially with Kitto, who's not only mentally childlike, but physically childlike. Jesus. Yech to the power of a thousand. Does LKH have any idea what these relationships look like?!

Rhys=Jason. I say this because there's no real romantic love between Merita and either of them. They're fuckbuddies. They're (were) funny. They're outside a lot of the power plays. They're physically similar (5'6, light hair).

And, I'm sure, it'll get worse as both hisems are expanded. Because I've seriously forgotten all the names of Merita's new potential fuckbuddies. We ought to write a list just so we can get an idea of the number. I'll start.

Anita:

Richard
JC
Asher
Micah
Nathaniel
Requiem
Auggie (I hiss! I spit! On that stupid name)
Byron
Damian

Merry:

Doyle
Frost
Galen
Rhys
Kitto
Sage
Onilwyn
Nicca
Barinthus
Mistral

I know there's more on both sides, but I swear, I have a mental block. (Blesses the Block.) Who else? Merry just added like two dozen in the last book.

*just rolls at the Mer-man comment* you know...Zoolander has a lot of the same things as the Meritaverse....pretty men who aren't too smart, cause if they were, wouldn't they have said no to this a looong time ago? Where's our Mugatu?!
