Curious about this for awhile...

It's been said in many places by different people that LKH's portrayal of the BDSM lifestyle is off. I know a bit more than just the basics - ah, the joys of reading - and can sort of inherently pick up that something isn't right with her depiction, but I can't really articulate it. I was just curious to hear from those who participate in the lifestyle, what they personally find offensive, frustrating, or just headdesk-worthy about LKH's portrayal. Perhaps they can help make it clearer to me why it feels amiss.

This is what I don't get -- I mean, she's all about the big independent wymynz and anyone that wants to settle down, get married and have kids instantly gets frowned upon because it's like some great sacrifice of liiiife or whatever. I kinda get the whole independence thing, but to me there's nothing wrong with also wanting to go home and cook a nice meal for your man/woman and snuggle up with them at night. Likewise, she's all about giving people choices to their situations and making sure it's what they want...just as long as it coincides with what she's willing to do, and if you're not happy with that, well then you can't get any Anita-loving. Boo hoo. Heaven forbid that anyone suggests something outside of her comfort zones. JC, at least, knows better than to broach the subject -- he's been yelled at far too long to sit through yet another lecture on what she's willing and not willing to go through.

The whole mingling of animal dominant behavior and sexual preferences makes my head hurt like crazy, because the two are not necessarily the same thing, which is what she's treating it as.
