(no subject)

Does anyone here plan on giving The Harlequin a chance? I've read a few good reviews and the teaser was so much better than anything she's put out in a long, long time. It makes me wonder if she might possibly redeem herself with this one?

I will get it either with Amazon, with its 40% discount, or once it gets the Barnes & Noble discount sticker (I'm a member, so I get discounts there). But I'll NEVER pay full price.

I'll be over here, dead from laughing.

I've given up on Merry, but I can't bring myself to give up on Laurita yet. I was appalled by Danse Macabre, and I am appalled by some of the previews for The Harlequin, but I will probably give it a chance.

Even if it's just to snark. :)

I'll probably check it out, but I've absolutely no expectations of quality. Some days, though, a completely trashy bad book is just what the doctor ordered, and LKH fits the bill nicely.

Ah, torrents will be my saviour. I've taken to giving the books an electronic read-through before deciding whether or not to give over good money to get my hands on the actual product. *pets internets*

In that my goal is to read 100 books this year (I'm currently on #53), I will probably read it as it will further my goal. That, and I have a gift card to Barnes and Noble, so I won't end up paying a penny for it.

Given what I've read of the spoilers on the LKH board I will not be buying this.

I'm going to give some other brave souls on here a chance to read it and then see what they say, then consider if I'm even going to bother getting it from the library.

The wtf-ery has driven me away completely, hell I got rid of the rest of the series this past weekend.

[identity profile] daphne-gateau.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I have it ordered from the library. I am also on PaperBackSwap, and so I've got it requested there. I'd buy it second hand. I will definately read it, but I won't pay hardback for it. But I don't pay hardback $ for anything really.

You lovely Lashers will probably think I'm nuts, lol, but as awful as parts of DM were there were kernels of stuff I found interesting. To me it was an improvement over the few books that had come before.

I'm still interested in many of the secondary characters. Anita though... I doubt it's possible to redeem her in my eyes at this point. Unless we find out that she's been under someone else's control since NiC. That would be cool and totally make sense to me.

I continue to read this series for the secondary characters. If they keep getting ruined, like what I fear is happening with Edward, then I don't know if I'll continue. I will give Harlequin a chance though.

As for Merry, I read the first book and she never appealed to me as much as Anita. I have the second book around here (found it free) but I don't know if I should bother reading it with so many other great books I could spend time with.

Ideally, I will pick it up in the bookstore when my friend and I are out on the town and we'll flip through to some of the particularly gruesome sex bits and be like, "Oh my god. Oh my GOD. She's really lost her mind." And then I will put it back down and spend my $19.99 on something else.

[identity profile] spoiled-saint.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's gonna be the first book in the series that I'm not going to read. Feel no desire to do so. I don't think it will be any better, or different in any way, and I REALLY don't want to read pod!Edward.

[identity profile] missrogue.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This is how it's gonna go down: I'll get it from the library...and if I can read about 80 pages into it without wanting to stab my eyes out with a spoon...then yes.

[identity profile] kyalesyin.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not gonna bother

[identity profile] x--shameless.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be reading it, if only for a good laugh :D

It's like a car wreck, I just can't look away.

[identity profile] jeannette.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The spoilers on the message board claim there's no sex for 15 chapters... and at least non for the next 5 after that. It's almost enough to tempt me.

I'll wait till the library has it in. Not giving her my money.

[identity profile] gweneth-syeira.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If I hate my brain and eyes so very mucho, I'll wait for the library

[identity profile] reluctantmember.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
not sure yet. maybe i'll buy a used copy. most of the spoilers left me gagging, but still... who can resist such great writing skills?

library isn't an option here unfortunately.

[identity profile] ellenel13.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I won't because after reading some of LKH's post, I just find her insulting and unprofessional. She lost me as a reader during the Ronnie smackdown in DM.

I will be reading the snark on this comm though.

[identity profile] ladymina.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I will be reading the snark here
I won't torture myself with reading the whole thing and I do have better things to spend my money on ...
But my morbid curiosity wants to know what'll happen ...
I do hope someone will do an overall snark and we'll also get the chapter by chapter snark

[identity profile] cookie-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll wait until somebody reads it here and hear their thoughts before I get it from the library. Or download it online. I don't want to waste my life.

But I probably not.

[identity profile] wonderbink.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll wait until the initial rush dies down of people checking it out from the library, then check it out, read it, laugh, and take it back.

[identity profile] witchwillow.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Podward & Funky Comedima Peter = Me taking yet another pass. Edward was the only reason I'd have considered borrowing the book.

[identity profile] saadiira.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
If I hear exceptionally good things after the snarking? (Highly doubtful) I might check it out over at the Border's coffee shop. (Read, sip, not pay.)

If it's a VAST improvement, I might put my money down so as to encourage more like it. But that's only a dream, plus, she's pissed me off with the wank, so I also doubt it.

[identity profile] dinsedaledarby.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not reading it. I know it will only bring cause me ridiculous amounts of pain. Besides, I won't have time what with reading other books that are better and more interesting.

[identity profile] vmisery.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I know I won't buy it, but I reserved it at the library months ago so I'll be the sixth person in Rhode Island's public library system to get a copy.

Some tiny shred of hope remains, I suppose, but mostly I just want to see just how badly she butchers Edward, who's always been my favorite character. I've been reading the series all along, I'm just done spending money on it.

Plus, may as well read it for snark fodder. :P Like someone said before, it's kind of like a train wreck, you can't look away.

Except I'm the one who sneaks through the police tape with a camera and then takes home chunks of twisted ruined metal as a living room conversation piece.

Spoilers

[identity profile] ladymuttly1.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Not after the spoilers I've read.

Someone over at the official board got a copy that was accidentally released early and has been posting chapter by chapter. Some posts are summaries and some are full dialog. For anyone who doesn't want spoilers stop reading now.

SPOILERS

The Harlequin comes to town. Apparently it torments Anita and crew by making them say things that they are thinking and might otherwise monitor. This includes:

1 chapter of Malcolm looking for Anita to save his church from the Harlequin and save Malcolm's soul for God.

4-5 chapters of Nathanial wanting Anita to either top him or let him get his BSDM outside of the relationship, while being sexually monogamous to Anita

2 chapters of sex with Richard. In one chapter the sex is so painful that Anita is left with cramps and bleeding. I get the impression that she is badly bruised up to and into her womb.

Micah being perfect

Richard attempting to share a bed with Anita, Micah and Nathaniel.

Richard being jealous because Anita has promised to eventually have sex with Sampson

1 scene with the MOAD where Richard scares away the ubervamp by turning into a wolf

1 scene with the MOAD where she threatens to claim Anita for her own, then immediately turns around and says she won't if JC gives Anita the 4th mark. She tries to give Anita the weretiger form as a gift/curse but doesn't succeed

1 phone conversation with Edward where Edward agrees to come to town. He has to bring along Peter because he a) has a crush on Anita, b) is into rough sex since he was raped by Amanda in OB and c) is blackmailing Edward into bringing him along. Otherwise he'll tell Donna about Edward vs. Ted. Also in this conversation, 42 Year old Donna wants to have more kids.

And the chapter where Raphael wants to become Anita's Blood Apple because
a) he needs to whore himself out as the rats need to be nearer to the power structure and b) he's desired Anita for years.

Actual plot:

-Harlequin comes to town to observe Malcolm and JC and is tormenting the gang by playing with their emotions

-The Harlequin planted bugs in Richard's home and the homes/businesses of the major vampires

This is through chapter 20. So no I don't think I'll spend $16-17 dollars on this dreck. IF anyone on the board actually likes it, I might borrow it from the library
