funny & true

This is from one of my favourite cartoons:

I am a librarian and can truthfully attest to the behaviour seen here. I personally gave up after OB but dip in occasionally (I live in hope but live with disappointment). Jim Butcher now provides me with my high quality fix of vampire and magic!

I've heard a lot of people talk about these books and I'd like to know a little about them. The covers always looked a little cheesy to me (but then again a lot of covers do) so I never picked them up...but I think you guys have gotten me interested.

Basically, I just wanted to know a little about the books.

I've only read the first one, but they seem to have more or less the same things you looked for in the earlier AB books. I suck at descriptions, so here are the Wikipedia links:
Dresden Files (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dresden_Files) (series, spoilers)
Storm Front (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_Front_%28novel%29) (first book)

The British covers are actually quite pretty:
