Is this true?

For those who have bravely read "Bullet" - is it true that JC and Asher have finally been allowed to sleep with each other, and that Micah and Nathaniel have suddenly become lovers out of the blue? I came across these rather astonishing claims on the Amazon forums. It seems bizarre that LKH has done a complete 180 on Anita's refusal to allow "her" men to sleep with other people and got characters getting together all of a sudden who never even had interest in each other previously. In one of the earlier books, maybe Harlequin, it was suggested that Asher had interest in Nathaniel, but Micah? I know he does whatever Anita wants, but what?

At the risk of getting blasted, There were only two sex scenes in Bullet. The orgy was skipped over except for the occasional flashback. Come on, for LKH, that's positively virginal.

On the other hand:

-The term de jour was "creamy goodness" (*wretch* once was enough lady.

-The repetition was repetitious.

-Richard's brain was replaced with a brain slug Futurama-style. I'm been in therapy and I'm getting my doctorate in Psychology, that much change doesn't happen in just a year.

-Who the fuck is Nicky? Am I being punished for not wanting to spend $30 on one third to one half a book?

-LKH: "Oh yeah! I write mysteries..... I should probably throw that in there somehow.." the mystery plot is, literally 20 pages. Of Anita watching a video. In the new computer room JC had installed. oi.

-I highly doubt parents of little kids in the bible belt would be comfortable with one of the "guest dancers" making out with a dude. I'D be uncomfortable with anyone making out like that in front of my kids and I'm from San Francisco.

I think her books are on the upswing from the pit of porn they became, I really do. Skin Trade was actually going to be the last book I bought/read if she kept with the shitty repetitive porn.Slowly her books are getting better... er, I hope. ^^

No, you're not being punished. Being punished is spending $30 on that book and then reading it. It's so not worth it.

As for Nicky, you are not missing out on much aside from a massive dose of hatorade. Highlight for spoilers:

YEAH. I don't think I have been quite so angry at a book for a very long time. And I kinda knew it was going to happen, because a friend of mine read it first and filled me in and that still doesn't make it any better.

The worst part? It's not even necessary for the story. What little plot there is could have gone ahead without it. Same sorta results, but without having Nicky bound to Anita like that.

IDK, I'm not in the US. Last I saw, Bullet was $20 Australian as a new release. Which is still cheaper than Flirt as an ebook when it first came out. WTAF. Seriously, it was like $26US when I went looking for it and refused to pay on principle because it's an ebook.

"How old is Anita now, anyway? Thirty? Thirty five?"

I'm beginning to wonder that myself. I want to say that she's closer to forty... but I haven't read the books in years.

They mention that she's just turned 28 in Bullet. *Sigh* Not even she can withstand the age time warp.

She just turned 28 in Bullet? WTF? I thought she was in her late 20's like way back in Obsidian Butterfly!

[identity profile] lady-fellshot.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Somehow that doesn't seem right... I could have sworn that she started the series at 26 or so.

[identity profile] magdalen77.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think she started at more like 24, but LKH has said she'll never turn 30. Therefore the enormous time difference between real life and the Anitaverse.

Thank you for that clarification. I think I'll go write something about a woman who's forty, happily married with kids and kicks ass in gleeful protest.

A very dear friend of mine just started reading the Blake books from the beginning, and I have warned her that "After Obsidian Butterfly, it degrades into rape, sexual manipulation, pederasty, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, prejudice, and sociopathy - all coming from Anita herself."
My friend doesn't care. She even named her new Nook ebook "Jean Claude" and thinks Anita is "the best kick-ass heroine ever." I'm not sure how she'll feel about the later books, or even if she'll notice that Anita actively rapes men. My friend is a self-described "Uber-feminine girly-girl with a damsel in distress personality who loves anything romantic and wants to be a Disney princess." I kind of hope the rape and manipulation bits in the books wakes her up.

*Blink blink* Uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh...... wut? Are you serious?! That's who Nicky is??

>.< Wasn't that the name of Nathanial's brother?

i'm so confused ;_;

This is why I downloaded Bullet and Flirt for free. It isn't stealing if it's garbage.

I think it was actually mentioned that the last time they saw Richard was 4 months before, so the utter change in his character happened in a few months. And yeah I was in therapy for 5 years and I didn't change as much as he did.

LOL

Yes we do. The spoiler tag is used to mark the brain scaring stuff so that one can read the 'friendly' version of events. So if it doesn't break someone's brain then no spoiler tag is needed.

So something like 'Anita get a new man and his name is *****, and they have poorly written sex' doesn't really need a spoiler tag. But somethings like 'Anita gains a spine and kicks JC out of her life after learning to control herself, after Nathanial leaves getting a job in New York as a bodyguard' definitely needs one.

;)
