After finishing DM I decided that I needed to go back and try to remember WHY I liked the series in the first place. I decided to go for OB just because I can't remember what happened in most of that book, but I remembered that Edward had a starring role.

I'm only a few chapters into it, but gawd. Anita has character. There's actually a plot! She's doing something besides fucking! She raised zombies and was working with the cops!

*cries* When is the old Anita going to come back to us?

But now I am starting to wonder what Edward has been up to since we last saw him. I think it would be interesting if Ted DID get married. He'd send an invite to Anita and she'd have to bring her harem of men. It MIGHT actually be a good story if LKH could bring back personalities to her characters. Edward would be there as Ted, pissed as hell over Anita's harem and dealing with trying to figure out what he should do. Would he let Ted slip enough so that he had to show Donna what he really was by trying to kill as many of the harem as possible, or would he just let the rage build up during the wedding and vow to take down Anita and the crew some other day? After all, in OB it's mentioned that Edward likes hunting the dangerous pray. I can't think of anyone more dangerous in the Antiaverse now than Anita.

I for one have a pretty hefty outpouring of rage for her depictions of BDSM. Seriously. I've had friends who know I'm into some of it read her books them come to me all worried and ask if I've been raped. Uhhhh...nnnoooooo...it ent like her books, folks! I wasn't sexually abused as a child...and none of the other subs I know were, either. We aren't submissive because we're scaredy cats or weak-willed people, either! Plus...she actually DOES borderline depict it as evil...a lot of her "bad guys" are sexual sadists wrapped in leather who get off by kicking folks and forcing them to do shit that, guess what, AIN'T LEGAL. :P

I can't recall ONE. SINGLE. DOMINANT who was a sadist who wasn't...yanno...an OMG EVIL PRICK who didn't know the meaning of the word "consent." Seriously!

I think the real reason folks who are into it don't go bashing her door down in a dog-collar'd lynch mob is because most of us (least the ones I know anyways) are actually pretty tolerant of idiots getting the wrong impression.

Oh, well, I guess I was too into Raina and Gabriel to really mind them being evil ::laugh:: Plus, I think a lot of her sadists come off more like serial killers than sexual "deviants". At least, to me they do. I'm also really ticked at how idiotic most of her subs and masochists are. Especially because house wives have rape fantasies, you're not automatically a submissive just because you once had a wet dream where some guy did you hard. I don't understand why none of the more dominant characters aren't sexual submissives, a lot of people who have lots of stress and power in their day-to-day lives like to give up control during sex.

But usually when someone gets the wrong impression about BDSM it's because they're uberconservatives or some such thing, since there is a lot of propaganda against it. The fact that ABVH is meant to appeal to people of a lot more liberal leaning, I think, makes it more harmful.

No kidding. :P People like Nathaniel need to be in serious therapy, not tied to a stage and called Bad Kitty. Those sort of people do NOT make good subs, because they are not mentally healthy. And nobody in their right mind would treat Nathaniel the way Anita and co. do. Grrrrrrr.

Ja. All she's doing is perpetuating the inaccurate stereotypes, which only re-circulates the notion that anyone into BDSM is sick in the head, abused, cruel, or perverted. Which...uhhhh...not so much.

The fact that LKH claims to engage in D&S is...really fucking scary, since she's so malrepresented it in her AB:VH series.
