I think I wrote the beginning of the next Anita Blake novel today. I didn't mean to, I just had that jittery feeling that I get sometimes when an idea is ready to burst out and become real. I honestly thought it would be a different idea, but I've had it happen before that at the end of one book in a series the next is loud in my head. It's not ready to be written by any means, but it's ready to be begun. I already did five pages on a brand new character that will be in the next book, but that was cut from Affliction. Today I sat down and did thirteen pages of what seems to be the beginning of another Anita novel. Now, will it be the next one, or a different one? I have openings of twenty, thirty pages, that have either never been used, or have been cut up and used in different books, but it had been a few years since I'd been moved to write so spontaneously and quickly on the same series when I'd just finished a book in that series. It felt great and it's a fun scene. I'll put it away for a few days while I finish up Italian interviews, and other business stuff. Once the new scene has cooled off some I'll see if it is really the beginning of a new book, or if it's just a fun and interesting scene I had to write in order to make room in the creative pipeline.

I care so much that she's already writing on the next book. So much you guys.

I know, right? I'm totally waiting with bated breath. Sooo excited. >:P

In all seriousness, I think she's going to be writing AB novels until she dies. Jesus.

Is it bad my first thought was: "So who volunteers to speed up the process"? Because yeah.

AB novels need to just stop.

But they probably won't until they stop selling.

Well, her sales have been in decline for the last several years now, but apparently, her true fans keep buying them up enough to keep her afloat, as it were.

I stopped around Cerulean Sins. I burned my copy of Incubus Dreams.

I really think she should have wrapped up the series around seven or eight books ago, and quit while she was ahead. While Anne Rice was pretty nutty, at least she had the good sense to go into a quiet retirement, since she found religion.

If only LKH could have a similar revelation and decide to join a convent or something. I doubt any of us would object. :P

Anne Rice didn't go into quiet retirement... she started publishing Jesus fanfiction. Then she lost her religion halfway through it, neglected to mention that, finished up her lackluster Bible fanfiction, and moved on to...Werewolves, maybe?

She just hasn't been making an ass out of herself in public lately...

"She just hasn't been making an ass out of herself in public lately..."

I'd take a little of that from LKH.

I lost track of Anne Rice and missed her Jesus phase, don't know if I'm happy or sad about this.

From all reports, her Religion phase was very, very weird. And she was sort of pissed that no one wanted to buy her Bible fanfic.

"And she was sort of pissed that no one wanted to buy her Bible fanfic."

I think that's a fairly common theme for the newly indoctrinated.

I am the same about dentistry now. I didn't go to the dentist for over 12 years and then went and now I want everyone to go, and stuff. So I'm like a born again, but in tooth care instead of Jesus. (That sounded less crazy when I was making the connections between going to the dentist and finding Jesus in my own mind.) :P

I swear on all things holy literally all, I don't care what religion, I will go on a rampage of epic proportions if she steals shit from her sister's werewolves. Because her sister's werewolves were what really got me into werewolves, and I love those books and... ugh.
