I think I wrote the beginning of the next Anita Blake novel today. I didn't mean to, I just had that jittery feeling that I get sometimes when an idea is ready to burst out and become real. I honestly thought it would be a different idea, but I've had it happen before that at the end of one book in a series the next is loud in my head. It's not ready to be written by any means, but it's ready to be begun. I already did five pages on a brand new character that will be in the next book, but that was cut from Affliction. Today I sat down and did thirteen pages of what seems to be the beginning of another Anita novel. Now, will it be the next one, or a different one? I have openings of twenty, thirty pages, that have either never been used, or have been cut up and used in different books, but it had been a few years since I'd been moved to write so spontaneously and quickly on the same series when I'd just finished a book in that series. It felt great and it's a fun scene. I'll put it away for a few days while I finish up Italian interviews, and other business stuff. Once the new scene has cooled off some I'll see if it is really the beginning of a new book, or if it's just a fun and interesting scene I had to write in order to make room in the creative pipeline.

I lost track of Anne Rice and missed her Jesus phase, don't know if I'm happy or sad about this.

I am the same about dentistry now. I didn't go to the dentist for over 12 years and then went and now I want everyone to go, and stuff. So I'm like a born again, but in tooth care instead of Jesus. (That sounded less crazy when I was making the connections between going to the dentist and finding Jesus in my own mind.) :P
