I hope everyone is having a great time at STL Comicon today, sorry we couldn't be there a second day. Thanks to everyone that came out to play yesterday at the con! Glad everyone enjoyed hearing me read the first chapter of Affliction, and the missing page, and me having to finish it on Jon's iPad. *laughs* It was fun doing photos at Left Bank book's booth afterwards. I look forward to seeing more of them as you post them on line. Today, I worked on the new novelite, or the new novel, still not sure which it is, but I cut twenty pages and added ten new ones. I think I have enough of it down to put it aside and work on the next thing. Sometimes it's like a creative log jam, until the idea is cleared I can't work on anything else. I've gotten several books out of this kind of creative idea cleaning - Flirt, and Micah, to name just two.

Mod note: Here's the video of her reading chapter 1 Affliction.

Wait, did she mention the walking dead there? Does that mean Anita never ages like the X-men?

Is it worth listening to her read the first chapter? I'm afraid it'll be super awkward and horrible and painful. And I'm not sure I can handle it...

She's a decent reader, but what she's reading desperately needs editing.

I know I can't handle it. I cringe just thinking about it :/

PS - I love your hyperbole and a half icon :D

I started to listen to it.

After a few seconds, my cat - who had been dozing on my lap - jumped up, glared at the speaker nearer him, let out a little growl and a short hiss, and then dove under the bed to hide!

Even my cat disapproves of her writing.

LOL!

She's a good enough reader that I actually feel like hearing it aloud makes it slightly more palatable. But OF COURSE she had to start off with one of my biggest Anita Blake pet peeves (going into lengthy and unnecessarily detailed description of the weaponry she's wearing and why and what it feels like to wear it and how much people might notice it and blah blah WHY MUST WE HEAR THIS EVERY TIME?!). And the dialogue...oh, the dialogue.

At the end, Anita promises Miccah's mother (Bea) that she'll bring Miccah, even though she flat-out acknowledges that it might be a lie and she can't promise for Miccah. Arrgh. She justifies it by saying that Bea needs something to look forward to and hold on to. Yeah, Anita, there's no chance it could be worse for her if Miccah refused to go and Bea had to deal with that disappointment on top of everything. Siiiigh. Why couldn't she had just said "I'll do my best to convince him to come"?

So, does Anita still actually work as an animator? Or is JC her funder?

And LKH... ease up on the unneeded weapons descriptions!!
