dear laurell,

please to tell fans blood relation josh to anita has? yas, please?

ahem, laurell. please stop fucking around with time. and bloodlines. and the 180 line (film majors get this). josh and the little sister, judith's children....are they steps or halves? there is a difference...you cannot keep interchangably using these terms.

thanks,
the management

Oh good. I thought I was hallucinating that. Hey, with these books it's difficult to tell.

Time I can live with. Time is wonky to figure out in pages anyway... but the half-step? Is it Josh is a step and the sister's a half? The little sister would have to be a half, wouldn't she? And then Josh could be either...

Maybe they're both half siblings but she doesn't want to claim them so she thinks of them as steps because they're part wicked step-monster?

Apparently, Laurell's lack of understanding in the area of proper relationship terms is contagious. The Anita Blake Compendium has this to say:

When Anita's father remarried 8 years later (based on Christmas gift of lavender blouse Anita got from Judith not returned, while her 8 gifts given to her stepmother have been), it was to a blonde haired, blue eyed woman named Judith. She had two children with him, giving Anita stepsiblings - Andria and Josh.

So apparently either Anita's father is not her actual father. Thus, the children he had with his 2nd wife are Anita's step-siblings. Or... he is not really their father at all and Judith was having an affair.

Someone's birth certificate is lying.

I know for a fact that Josh is a half (I can't find my copy at the moment, but I believe that's mentioned in...The Lunatic Cafe? Whenever Anita and Ronnie were x-mas shopping). I'd managed to forget about the sister entirely, but isn't she a step sibling? From Judith's first marriage?

Obviously Anita only knows about relationships as far as Laurell knows about them, and since Laurell doesn't see the difference between half-siblings and step-siblings, why should she bother finding out?

Oh, yeah, have these books really been around so long and no crazed fan has written some encyclopedia of mentioned chars? Maybe this comm should do it, so we can give a biased-our-way spin on things ^.^

Given all the weird stuff I've been looking up for the deathfics - and stuff that isn't listed on the Anita Blake Compendium (http://halo-productions.com/anita/), I'm determined to be so anal as to create such a thing for both the AB:VH and MG series.

Just because books don't come with a CTRL + F feature.

Hey, if you need help, I have a long, boring summer up ahead of me after the semester ends ^.^

And...if you look hard enough online, everything has a CTRL + F feature. ::wink::

I think I've got a lot of the ground work done (back before NiC came out, I got it into my head to make an LKH fansite *shudder*) but I've been hunting around for webspace, something not angelfire.

Honestly, the hardest part? Going through all the first 12 novels and making notes on everything. After that, it's just a matter of updating information as it comes along.

What about just, like, cjb.net or somewhere? I doubt it has to be anywhere fancy. Or you could always find a way to set it up on LJ using tags and memories....(gods, but angelfire started sucking)

How much you wanna bet your notes are better than LKH's?

It does sound like a neat idea, and something I'd be interested in reading. (Don't think I'd be much help with info as I've only read most of the series once, but it's something I've always wanted to do for the Anne Rice books, and I have substantial notes for those. I thought I was the only one who did stuff like this!) Agree with [livejournal.com profile] mneiai that LJ might be a good place to set it up - the Memories system could be handy for organising the information in different categories and sub-categories.

In Killing Dance, she says that her father married Judith, who had a daughter from her first marriage, and then together they had a son. I just read this last night.

Okay, here's some of the excerpts I was thinking of (and if anyone else has used them already, well, I'm being lazy and not reading other people's comments...).

"...Maybe I'll find Josh something there."
"How old is he now, thirteen?" Ronnie asked.
"Fifteen," I said. "My baby brother was my height last year. He'll be gigantic this year. Judith says he's outgrowing his jeans faster than she can buy them."
"A hint to buy him jeans?" Ronnie said.
"If it is, I'm ignoring it. I'm buying Josh something fun, not clothes."
"A lot of teenagers would rather have clothes," Ronnie said.
"Not Josh, not yet anyway. He seems to have taken after me."
from The Lunatic Cafe (I think it can be inferred, what with the use of "baby brother" as well as the age and how he takes after her that they're genetically related).

That's the last time I remember him being outright mentioned. I go by THIS, because in Guilty Pleasures he's called sixteen and her stepbrother (and the sixteen has obviously been retconned here).
