Copyedits for Affliction have begun in earnest. They're due back March 22, which is this Friday. *Ah!* This is a chance not only for grammar & spelling, but also to change a new character's name if they had a placeholder name until I could think of a better one. Our wonderful continuity editor, Missy, who has only come on board since Kiss the Dead will help me make sure people don't keep growing & shrinking a few inches from book to book, and eye color. *rolls eyes* Why do I keep chaning some character's eye color? Also time line issues. *sigh*

Gah!

One of the things that drives me insane about LKH is her inability to keep facts straight. Is is really that damn hard? I don't write, so I don't know, but it seems to me that if you had this big universe going, and it was hard to keep track of all your characters, you would have an encyclopedia of the facts to refer to.

I've been re-reading all the AB:VH books lately to make sure the fanfic I'm working on fits canon. But how the heck am I supposed to do that when LKH doesn't even keep her continuity straight? I could let it go that Belle Morte's hair mysteriously changes from reddish-brown to black and back again, because that's a pretty minor detail.

However, I put in my fic that Damian was the Dragon's line, because it fit the powers that he and she-who-made-him have, and I was under the impression he wasn't one of Belle's vamps. Then I came across a mention in one book that he is Belle Morte's line. It makes no sense, but hey, LKH is The Author, so okay. I went back and changed it all in my fic.

Now I've come across a place in Incubus Dreams where both Damian and Jean-Claude specifically say that Damian is NOT Belle's line.

SO WHICH IS IT?!

If Anita can call the dead, and heal the dead (remember when she used her own blood and the corpse came out of the ground looking totally alive? And if vampires are dead, and she can call them during the day (like she did with Damien to help her out of a jam) then why doesn't she heal Asher?
I read all the books in a three week span last year and noticed *a whole LOT* of continuity errors that bug me...

You know what I just realized? Merry in canon has a number of scars. One is directly over one of her breasts, and is in the shape of a large handprint.

Why the hell hasn't this scar ever been on any of the covers? I mean, it's plot-related, it's intriguing (hey, how'd she get that on her chest? read to find out!) and it would just plain look cool, even a bit sexy. I have numerous scars myself and have never understood the appeal, and even I think it'd be nice and artistic-looking.

Yet while the cover to A Stroke of Midnight displayed ample quantities of heaving bosom, there were no scars. I realize the scar is usually disguised by glamour, but there's no reason it couldn't be shown.

In fact, both of LKH's protagonists have scars, and the covers for both series portray basically naked women...with nary a scar or even a mole in sight. We don't even need to see all the scars; just the more (relatively) photogenic ones. Anita's cross and Merry's hand would make spiffy cover fodder, and appropriate for their respective series. It's a shame they were ignored in favour of "prettier" covers.

ahem, laurell. please stop fucking around with time. and bloodlines. and the 180 line (film majors get this). josh and the little sister, judith's children....are they steps or halves? there is a difference...you cannot keep interchangably using these terms.

thanks,
the management

I may as well get this started.

Out of curiousity, I was lurking about on LKH's official board, on the Ask Laurell section, and a hopeful fan asked whether or not there will ever be an Anita/Merry crossover. Apparently the official word is that no, not gonna happen, because a) two completely different alternate universes and b) according to Laurell the fae don't exist in Anita's world anyway.

Let me say that again: the Anitaverse officially has no fae.

Um, except NO. LKH wrote an ENTIRE BOOK with fae characters and a fae backstory and just generally lots and lots of fae-ness. And yes, it's an Anita Blake book! Available right at your local bookstore! Yet official word is that it never happened. Nope, whole months of Anita's life aren't canon, nothing to see, move along.

In other words, she just jossed Bloody Bones.
