Spoilers Harlequin: Peter - The Pimp in training

I took Flo's adivce and decided to make a thread about Peter.

So Peter is suppose to come to St. Louis with Edward and Olaf.

Here are the Spoilers for the Harlequin:

Peter gets clawed pretty good by a weretiger trying to help Anita.

He needs rough sex because he has issues with women because of his rape by Amanda in OB- and it was too rough for his first two girlfriends.

And, the kicker of it all - but no big surprise- he has a crush on Anita and she's his hero because she saved his family.

This is just gross. Peter having a crush on Anita is just wrong, but of course he has to crush on her ... there is no one else for him to crush on who isn't the "DIETY".

In the timeline, Peter is suppose to be 14/15 years old. Yet, it would seem LKH will forget about his age because she forgets everything else (i.e. Asher smokes, Damian's age and oh how about a PLOT!)

But this isn't the first time LKH has mention sex and someone under the age of 18. If I remember, DM had the Siren making deals with Anita to sleep with her kids for them to come into their powers. I only thing one of them is over the age limit. So this doesn't surprise me. It is very much the direction of where LKH has gone now. The only thing on her mind is sex, sex, and more sex. For it is the only thing she writes about and there isn't anything to stop her including age limit.

As for Peter, I am not surprise this is where they are taking him. Look at Nate for crying out loud. This was a creature Anita was trying to help since BO and BM. Yet, somewhere from OB and NIC he no longer became this scared helpless barely over the age of 18 who was abused and kicked to the sideline. Oh no, he became a "stud muff" Shrug   Which I never got that. Nate is not a strong character. I still see the character as a broken boy who doesn't know how to take care of himself without selling himself one way or another. That alone is a reason I never liked the character.

There is just some things you can cross the line but others you can't. Furry sex and underage sex is just things no one should touch. Someone apparently doesn't know that. We have seen Furry sex  .... it is a matter of time for the other and it looks like it could be this next book. Of course, to justify the means LKH will just forget Peter's real ago and call him 18. I mean his "fake" ID says so. *eyeroll*

I think LKH won't write about therapy maybe because she is afraid she will learn that sex can't and will not solve your problems. Instead of drinking like most "normal" people, LKH has made Anita and the rest of the characters think sex is the answer to the questions. Anita still hasn't gotten over her mother's death or her father re-marrying. How about her ex who left her because she was mixed. She still harbors these issues and is making her life evening more of a mess the more she buries the problems underneath the next person she sleeps with.

Or maybe this is just life imitating art?Shrug

Thoughts?

... like everyone I am disgusted at what is happening to Peter. I would have to say the torture scene with Peter and his sister in OB were the only things in all the books that came close to pushing me out of my 'comfort zone' - to quote LKH's Negative Reader Rant.

What poster steffiebug said about LKH changing from just being lame to being sickly offensive started me thinking...

After what I've heard about Harlequin I wonder if she wasn't truly affected by the huge backlash to her rant and decided to show us how bad it can get. After Dear Neg Reader everywhere on the net people were saying 'bitch plz, you haven't approached my comfort zone, that sex is boring'. In Harlequin, I'm sure the sex will still be boring as hell and her prose will not have improved, but it sounds like LKH is pushing every possible line to offend people. Starting with Edward being tamed and joining the monster defense league, to Joseph's wife being vilified for not wanting to share her husband, now we have Peter coming back with major sexual issues - at 15. It's like she's just *trying* to offend the readers with anything she can wring out of her character list.

Is it for publicity? Is it because she'd like to 'show us' that she CAN do the things she alluded to in her Rant blog but found out that she can't actually write better books than she already does? Therefore she's just childishly going to throw in crazy hot button offensive issues to prove that she's 'edgy' and can push us out of that comfort zone, dagnabbit!

Sorry for blathering on. lol Back to Peter... I bet she will have sex OR she'll harken back to what I hated even MORE than the boring sex... 'metaphysical sex'. Remember all that 'healing' she used to do and angst about? I bet we dust off those skillz and she has to 'heal' Peter (maybe from those tiger scratches?) and use Raina/the munin... blah, blah, blah. I'm sure she'll end up victimizing Peter and there will be people encouraging her and a plot device 'forcing' her to do it.

I think you might have hit the nail on the head.

Either she does actually think that this sort of thing is good and edgy, or she's putting it in there to push our buttons and get more press. As they say, no attention is bad attention to a person like her.

That and she's stated herself on more than one occasion that she likes to be 'contrary' to what people say or think. This would be an ideal, drama queen way of doing it.

And I too hate the 'metaphysical sex'. It was neat once, maybe twice, much in the same way her sex scenes weren't bad the first couple of times. But by the hundredth re-run of the same old thing, it got lamer than a lame thing.

Agreed on everything.

Yeah, the concept of metaphysical sex is okay to me. It's an idea that could be sexy, but for Anita it never is. What bothers me about in these books is:
- the author doesn't have the ability to write it clearly or succintly. Totally what you said! After the first couple scenes it got so mind-numbing.
- it is used to let Anita have sex without her actually having to admit she had sex (which is why I said it might come into play with Peter, ewww *shudder*)
- the endless wangsting that surrounded it. Then Anita still didn't have to accept responsibility, the blame is all conveniently on Raina. I think it was Blue Moon was the worst for this stuff. Ugh.

Well, if she really is trying to be 'contrary' (read: childish) just because she is not adult enough to take criticism then... it's her funeral. Like I said in another comment, editorial reviews have been [strangely] positive (considering how ridiculous, boring and annoying her books are) but I doubt she will get positive reviews from the media/professionals for writing child/teen molesting in a positive light. Perhaps she thinks Anita is so cool she can get away with everything? I think she's in for a shock. Perhaps LKH will get a much deserved lesson in humility this time.

bet she will have sex OR she'll harken back to what I hated even MORE than the boring sex... 'metaphysical sex'. Remember all that 'healing' she used to do and angst about? I bet we dust off those skillz and she has to 'heal' Peter (maybe from those tiger scratches?) and use Raina/the munin.
Because hospitals are so last season, lol.
If that's what is going to happen then it's the lamest excuse ever. ^___^;;

I hope you are right about the lesson in humility. Anita (and apparently her writer) are passed due for a backlash.

Don't you love how hospitals only get used when it's convenient for Anita? lolz It would be the lamest excuse to be sure, but it came to my mind because it walks the line of not really being sex; yet for for all intents and purposes it is. Anita would get to pretend she didn't victimize Peter more and also justify her actions to herself. And to herself only, because the rest of us won't buy it. If LKH suffers backlash about this nastyness it in the press (I hope she does) she can justify herself (to herself) with the 'they didn't really do it' crap. Yuck.

Ah, who needs hospitals when you have Anita's super duper sex powa of healing?

I actually think you are right. That is probably what will happen with Anita and Peter and the were tiger thingie. It's very predictable and it will seem a perfectly good excuse to LKH. I just said 'lame' because any normal person would get a lycanthropy victim to a hospital for a vaccine. But if Anita did that there would be no sticky, horribly described sex (I always feel like it's a dry and vaguely gross anatomy lesson) for her, oh no. Gross to think her next victim is a teen! Yuck x 1000.
