question that woke me up in the middle of the night...

Okay, so here's the thing. This question woke me up at 5am. Either that, or the two cats fornicating outside my bedroom window. Anyhow.

Why the hell was Anita relying on a hormonal birth control?

LKH makes it such a big deal to constantly inform us that Anita is becoming more and more like a lycanthrope (and a vampire, and the UBERPOWERFUL NECROMANCER OF DOOM oh my!), and explained in previous books that shapeshifters can't use normal medicines because their bodies burn them off too quicky. -scratches head.- Soooooo, by that same logic, wouldn't that make hormonal BC (the pill) ineffective?

Consistancy woman. Please. -cries a little.-

Edited to Add: It was a cry for help for consistancy. I know that she can't keep her sh*t straight. It was clearly evidenced in her first three chapters of Danse Macabre (and the hilarious flogging it endured on here!) Unfortunately, I have fallen victim to her books, and will unfortunately see this whole mess through. :D

If you are/were hoping for consistency or sensible plot points...you're reading the wrong books.

Yes, utterly horrifying and completely irresistable!

where were you when the other books came out?
there are a couple of facts that just don't work
I mean the carrier thing (Anita as a carrier of several kinds of lycantrophy, and maybe even contagious, when usual lycatrophies are only contagious in animal form, and she has none)
then lkh confuses the ages of her vampires, especially Damian and JC
the way you write Dolph's name, is it Dolf (first pages of OB) or Dolph - like most of the way
and so on and so on
there is no consistency in her books, cause she can't get the facts straight anyway - or well maybe she looses all her notes a couple of times a month

Welcome to the world of Anita Blake where everything makes sense to Anita and not to you. An inconsitancy? Anita has the sexy magickal solution to your problems!

They just have to watch out for the joys of character-assassination.

Modly: Thank you for using the LJ-cut, but... you neglected to tell us WHAT you were spoiling ;-) Please edit that in when you have a chance. Thanks!

Might depend on how hormones you put into the body work, as opposed to medications... if she ever notices the mistake, LKH might try making some explanation based on that. But overall it seems like another of those annoying things she doesn't catch because she just writes whatever comes into her head at the time.

I find it particularly frustrating that so many laws of (preter)nature that she once said were immutable now seem to get forgotten. It's like the thing with Dolph's name someone mentioned above - it's like she suddenly forgot all the established background detail of the first eight or nine books.

So she says. I've read one interview where she says something along the lines of it was either Bio or English because she was only a few class shy of either. There's a mention of it back in the archieves somewhere on here.

She said she was a few classes away from Political Science. But English and Biology are her degrees.

And I want to punch her, repeatedly, for the latter.

I'm a biology geek and she's giving my people a bad name.

Ah, the old mind is a slipping. Thanks for the clarification *files for future reference*

Giving your people a bad name?
Look what she's doing to us English nuts!
It makes me want to cry!

We should join forces, light some torches and take up arms pitchforks and storm the Ivory Tower.

Excellent. I have a couple of pitchforks going spare if anyone needs them.. and I'm sure I have a lynch rope somewhere around here...
