Entry title: Tsunami

I didn't get a lot of sleep, so this won't be the picture of coherence. Then again, LKH is rarely coherent, so what am I apologising for?

Her words are in bold.

The tsunami disaster. For days after it happened, I didn't know about it. When the book is going well and the deadline is very close, Darla protects Jon and I from some news.

"Protect"? From "the news"? WTF? Is the news a big bad monster? Oh no, Laurell, watch out! It's news! You know, stuff from that nagging real world that you seem to be unable to grasp. The real world where not all men have "curtains" or "veils" of hair that cover their asses. The real world in which Anita would not be the object of everyone's desire. The real world in which anyone in Anita's sphere would have told her to fuck off by now.

When I am working like this I don't watch the news, or read newspapers, or even go near a magazine rack. I avoid anything that may ruin my train of thought, or interfere too much with the mind set I need to do what I do.

Totally, because don't let the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people worry you. I mean, you have to educate sycophant teenage wannabe-goths on kinky sex. That's a big task. You better not worry yourself with trivial things like thousands of orphaned children, or entire communities that have been utterly demolished. And "interfere with the mind set"? Again, WTF? How could a tsunami possibly "interfere"? Unless, of course, Merry and Barinthus are going to be having sex in the middle of the ocean and cause a tsunami. Which they probably will. She really needs to ditch her handlers for a while and get a taste of the real world.

Darla used to give bits of the news to Jon, but if it was bad enough I'd pick up on it, so she stopped sharing with either of us.

Okay. Even if I bought into the "artist mind-set" bullshit she brings up later on, why does this affect the ubiquitous Jon? Is he co-writing the novels? If he is, I can't blame him for not wanting credit. Or maybe he is, and that's why they've started to suck. Or is it because, you know, they're just so in tune with each other? Gag.

At my request, because of if it was horrible enough it would take me days to be able to write again, or write any amount of pages. So, in a way, I live in a bit of a bubble. I have to say that it is one of the few parts of the whole artist mind-set that I can't deny. You need a little bit of an ivory tower, or the world becomes too heavy.

Newsflash: the world is heavy. It's the job of the artist to portray that heaviness, to interpret it, to re-evaluate and redefine it. This must be why her books are getting more and more implausible.

Other than that, be good to one another, and do what you can not just for those who were devastated by this disaster but for those closer to home, as well. Let us take care of eachother, for we are the hands that God has made to do His work.

Gaggity gag gag. Who does she think she is? First of all, she must belong to every religion on the planet, because she "thanks the Goddess" in one of her non-political entries, and now she appears to be using the Christian God. I guess she's trying to cover all her bases, hoping that some deity will take pity on her.

Random blog flogging: why the hell doesn't she have the blog on her own site? She has a domain that "her people" run. Her publishers have a domain for her as well. So why is she hiding it away? So people like us don't tear it to shreds? Yeesh.
