Modly stuff & potential challenges

I know I've been an absentee mod as of late, but… I've had a lot of stuff going on. Apologies. Also, as I've said many times, this comm has gotten far larger than I ever expected, so I think I'm going to have to find some co-mods or something.

Also, I'm sorry for neglecting the gmail account. I'll do my best to try checking every couple of days, but if you've sent something and I haven't replied within a few weeks, just give me a gentle nudge. =)

Two issues:
1) Laurell's appearance. Yes, I know sometimes the snark writes itself about her fashion "sense". Some of the comments about weight, however, have been questionable. Please try to keep the snark aimed at her words, not her body. I highly doubt any of us look "perfect" either. I know I sure as hell don't.

2) Behaviour in comments. I can't keep up with all the comments. I'm sorry. I did try, once upon a time, but the comm's too big for that now. So I'm hoping that if someone gets out of line, someone else will bring it to my attention so I can step in. That said, I'd like to repeat something from the FAQ: Treat other members respectfully. Attack the ideas, not the people who hold them. This is very rarely an issue here, and I'm thankful for that. But just remember that not everyone has the same knowledge base. We have a wide range of ages, reading levels, education levels, experience levels, even languages, so be respectful. I'm not saying you have to like everyone and romp in the grass like happy little kittens, but be polite. (And please, don't give me any of that "but polite/civil/respectful is relative/subjective" bullshit. EVERYTHING is subjective, so that's a useless argument.)

And just so this isn't totally a downer, there have been some really awesome posts lately, so thanks for that. I know there are a lot of outsiders that think all we do is bitch, but there have been some interesting theories thrown around as of late, which is nice to see. =)

Also, I'll try to get organized and issue another challenge of some sort. Any preferences?

Perhaps in the spirit of Strange Candy, we could do a short story challenge. However, instead of wanky tales of woe, we could each write Anita and the other characters' reactions to stumbling upon this community and reading how thoroughly we've snarked them.

I'm quietly in favour of the short story challenge. But I'm favouring a 'starts with this sentence'. And then there being a choice of three or four. My personal favourite would be.

"Anita woke up in a puddle of semen."

Simply because there are so many ways one could take that - from gramatical error to who knows what sexual horrors.

Huh... wonder if that should be a 'bad fic challenge'

How about a mathematical formula breaking down how many sex partners Anita and Merry have had, how many times they've had unsafe sex and what the odds are for them having acquired at least one STD?

I'm all for having alternative POVs on things - I know mneiai has written some amazing fics from Richard's POV in DM and having other characters comment on what's going on with Anita in a given scene or story would be awesome.

Also, given your workload and the size of the comm? You're coping pretty darned well.

I kind of like the idea of positive ficlets. I know the community is about the snark, but it might be nice to explore some positive avenues. Play with the world from before the arduerthbbt ever came along. Or maybe play with the future when Anita finally gets bored with all the sex and becomes a nun...

The first sentence thing is also appealing, so I second that idea.

Also, I don't mind volunteering for modly stuff should you want me.

Also also, I just looked at the member figures for this comm, and HOLY SHIT! Have members been breeding?! I'd been thinking there were 50 or so people, because I remember when this was a small comm... but the numbers have rocketed! O_o
