fanclub flog: goodies

So I have a random, nondescript envelope full of the "goodies" that fanclub members get. (Please, keep the brown-paper-porn jokes to a minimum, thanks. *g*) Most of the stuff is cheap: buttons, fan club membership cards, lame bookmarks.

But the pens amused me. They have windows, and whenever you click the pen on or off, a new message rolls around. Hours of enjoyment for bored English majors!

Colour scheme: Not bad, actually. Silver body with a black clip, clicky thing, and tip at the bottom. LKH's name is printed in white, in a simple font. Rather businesslike, really.
Window sayings:
- "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" & "Necromancers are not all evil"
- "That weapon is your friend" & "Pure power has many uses"
- "You cannot be too careful" & "Everyone is cannon fodder"

Sorta Zen, in its own way.

Then there's the Merry pen, which I just got today.

Colour scheme: like a Crayola box that puked. Most of the body is a sea-foam green, which is bad enough. The bottom bit is purple with a yellow tip. The clip and an annoying spiral that circles the clicky thing (which is purple, capped in yellow) are dark pink. YIKES. I don't know what's worse: the colours, or the fact that they try to give the pen some cred by putting LKH's name on in a flowy font.
Window sayings:
- "Merry Gentry Series" & "What price a kingdom?"
- "Fairie Princess/Private Eye" & "Ignorance breeds fear"
- "Unseelie Sidhe" & "Bet ya can't choose just one!"

Y'know, rather than give away cheap trinkets, they could save their money and ... I don't know. Send out signed bookplates or something.
