Her bold, me mocking bitchy.

I could do my usual rant on the first day of daylight savings for the year. I could curse Benjamin Franklin, but instead I'll just say that this can't be what Franklin had in mind. Franklin wanted us to go to bed earlier and get up with light to save candles. Candles, folks. When's the last time you lit your way with a candle?

Okay, that said -- she's going to rant about it anyway.  Also, I just wikipedia'd the whole daylight savings thing, and...well, according to that, Franklin was urging the French to save candles, not Americans.  I know that wikipedia can be dodgy at times with info, but...well, compare that to our heroine here -- who do you trust?

Not to mention, let's cast our minds back to her power outtages. Okay, so you can use a flashlight -- but when your batteries fail you, just what can come to your rescue??? Hey, lookit, candles.

I read yesterday that daylight savings will save so many barrels of oil? How? Most electricity in this country is made from coal or nuclear, mostly coal. So how does daylight savings save oil? Do our cars run more efficiently in daylight? I don't think so.

Annnd this is where I headdesk -- from my understanding, in the crazy world of the northern hemisphere, you're going into summer.  Therefore, you're using less oil for heating, this frees up some of the reserves and hey presto, we may get a reduction of petrol prices over in my country.  I could be wrong, because I don't pay attention to this much beyond what appears on the news and petrol prices don't bother me because I don't drive, let alone own a car.

I'm going to take this opportunity to coin the phrase geekfury just to express the eye-twitching annoyance that's going through me right now.  Dude, I studied this in third year uni, I watch the news, I can glean enough to be appropriately cynical about...well, everything.  As far as I'm concerned, it helps if you know what you're talking about before you start going off about stuff like this -- but given Laurell's "research" regime of looking stuff up after the fact, I...just...*sputters* no words.

No rant this year, just puzzled.

Oh, you liar.  You ranted.  It was brief, but still a ranty mcrant ranty-pants about how you hate Ben Franklin and changing your clocks.  Cope, lady, you're getting an extra hour of sleep.

Frankly, I think daylight savings is a way for the government, whatever flavor, to feel it's saving energy when in point of fact it probably isn't. It saves whoever is in the White House from having to truly look at ways to cut energy costs and give us alternative fuels. See, we're saving energy. We're turning the clocks forward an hour. Yea!

Verily, Laurell, I do stab thee.  I watch The West Wing, I know that the government is still wayyy smarter than you, Laurell.  But you go ahead and feel however you like about it and then when it comes to voting time, just blog about how people ought to get out there and VOTE.  Never mind about who or what for, just do it, dammit. *headdesk* I cannot express how much that sentiment pisses me off.

All this over having to SIGH, turn the clocks forward one. measly. hour.  THE STRAIN! THE HORROR! Specially if it's a digital clock, or she has to reset the VCR, because we all know about her "technophobia".

All I think daylight savings does is irritate most of the country, and make us late for at least one morning twice a year to wherever we're supposed to be going.

I'm going to ask it: do you guys in the US not get an update in the news or whatever the night of daylight savings to switch your clocks forward/back? If not, okay, that's gotta suck - but if you do, how many people here have problems with it? Because I know I certainly don't get any -- but then, I kinda live nocturnally so I don't know if that counts.

Still, OMFG, it's not like she's getting asked to invent time.  I hope Doctor Who rocks up just to bitchslap her.
