You know, this crap is one of the big things that turned me off of Anne Rice early -- the recurring motif of a youngster, 13 or younger (in one book, 10!), who seeks out sex and knows what they're getting into and is in no way abused by entering into a sexual relationship with someone much older. (In the Witch books, the 13-yr-old who seduces Michael. In another book -- also a Witch? -- the 10-yr-old who becomes a prostitute. I'm sure there are many more, but I stopped reading a while ago.)
After a certain point, it isn't a motif, it's a psychological problem that needs to be dealt with. I don't know what LKH is processing from her youth, but there's something going on. Sorry, but for anyone, particularly the parent of a 12 or 13 yr old to think that this is normal, acceptable drama? She has deep-seated issues fighting their way to the surface. (By the way, I'm not suggesting that this means LKH was sexually abused. I think there can be many traumas that result in someone thinking that a young person getting involved in sex is empowering.)
