I haven't even read this book yet, but after the last book in the series i read DM i lost interest completly, i'd been loosing interest for the last 3 books but hoped they'd get better. But DM just destroyed any hope i had that they might go back to being half-way good and half showing the promise they did back in the early books.  Now i hear that new new one is worse then anything else to come out yet, well that's it, i'm not going to read another book in the series.

Excuse my butting in guys but just couldn't resist commenting. I have the same problems you guys have. Before i say anything else i actually used to like both JC and Richard. JC with his plotting and enigmatic outlook were a source of interest and tension and and he was powerful in his own right. So was Richard, before she changed into the sad, pitiful, tragic figure he is today (i still cry for poor Richard, he was never a true overfall favourite of mine, but he was MUCH better earlier on in the series). I bemoan what happened to these two guys, they were great and they got de-balled as i saw somebody say about Doyle's character on another message board.  And for the record Doyle's charcter did have the promise of being the only character with balls in the entire two series list of males, but he didn't survive loosing his balls. How can a thousand year old assasian, bad assed faery loose it like that after one fuck or two??? Sorry off topic, but that had to expressed.

I wonder what Laurell has against strong men keeping their balls? Why do they always have to loose them after one fuck or two?

Another comment -while i more relieved to know that Edward survived being fucked, i think i would have found all the copies i could get my hands and burned them if he had been eaten like very other half decent male. I heard that new newest book has her fucking Rafael?! *Goes to find a blunt knife*.

I happen to really like the Wererat King's character and to hear that she went and fucked him as well just broke something in me that i thought was already broken by her latest writing. *pissed off** Goddamm! Poor Rafael!

could you put the last two paragraphes behind a cut, please? They are spoilers.

As for the new book: I found it on the net and haven“t been able to read further than the middle of the first chapter.

... My brain just shattered trying to picture that. I had this horrible vision of LKH starting her own clothing label and it being full of leather, thongs, and men's peekaboo tops. The sad thing is, I can see all of the tasteless, rich women for the world going for that and making their famous men wear it, thus forcing it into popularity and ennevitably heralding the apocolypse.

What's really bad was that my first thought was, "Silk suspenders? Everyone knows you have to wear a cumberbund with shirtless leather tuxedos."

I'd like some creative imput. Can anyone think of anything worse for a man to wear? Red satin crotchless lederhosen... a sheer black ruffly teddy top with sparkly man!pasties and a black vivyl thong... worn backward.

I found the new book an improvement on her recent books. Olaf is creeeeepy, Edward is still pretty much himself, and there is some interesting new things.

Of course it has its problems, but I think she's doing better than she has been with this recent.

I recommend reading it, at any rate. At the most, it's an evening you won't get back.

I can't stand how LKH emasculates men either.

Modly, again: Please use an LJ-cut with spoiler warnings. I just made a mod-post about this AND it's in the FAQ, so you have no reason not to know.

OMG nooooes! I just 'caved in' and ordered the Harlequin (yes, I totally had a weakness attack... my exams were over, I wanted to celebrate by buying some books). Please tell me where in the book (pages, please, lolz) Jean Claude wears that ridiculous outfit. I so don't want to read that. It would be bad if I were to have an aneurysm at the begibning of my summer holidays... :p

I don't agree with the people who think the Harlequin is better than the other recent offerings in the series. I read the book and left it feeling numb. I do agree that there was a -paper thin- plot and less sex, but there was more of the same powering up, Anita fucks a few more men, and the ardeur is love and friendship now. WTF!

The thing is, I have reread all of the other books, incuding DM. Each book had at least a few scenes that were interesting because of new background on characters I actually like or passages that were so bad I had to read them again, but TH has nothing in it. After I read it, I couldn't describe any scene or character with any detail because the book wasn't memorable. DM was memorable for just how bad it was, but TH just sucks.

I was incredibly pissed when Laurita fucked Raphael and Donovan, but I guess I should have expected it. No lycanthrope leader can escape the Crotch of Doom.

The last straw for me was at the end when we find out the MOAD is waking up because Anita exists. Anita is so powerful that she's waking a vampire that's an ocean away. Seriously, WTF?!!

I know, I have that version too. I am still at chapter 4, but I was liking the whole 'white mask' and 'can't talk about it ma petite' and the total absence of sex in the first four chapters. So I thought "what the heck, I'll buy it. Computers give me headaches anyway". But... someone call the fashion police! Does LKH really think that's... what, sexy? Weird. :p

Oh my, tails????? *giggles* That's so ridiculous it's funny. Really funny.

It's p. 66 in the hardcover. I missed this when I read it, probably because I usually skip the clothing descriptions.

Here's my question: With all these men wearing leather all the time, do they ever stink? Leather makes you sweat and that makes you stink. I guess the Crotch of Doom has its own stench so Anita never notices :P

leaher tux

Actually, I've seen it.
It totally works.......... ON THE RIGHT MAN.

Seen leather tails too. Looks amazing with leather pants.
ON THE RIGHT GUY.

But LKH dresses fan-boi like right out of the International Male catalog
(which, I believe if they KNEW; they'd cease production).

I will read it, but right now the tone with which the book starts just grates too much on my nerves.
