OH GOD I'm with you on the "bird for the year" thing. If it's a spiritual/Wiccan/tradition/whatever the fuck thing, then stick with birds. Or just have an "animal for the year". Because at the end of the day she's proved herself that what you choose to take from it - saving? play more? sentinel? - is so damn subjective that no matter what happens in the year, you'll be able to make a connection.
There isn't necessarily anything wrong with that (heck, I rely on subjectivity when I'm using tarot cards) but either admit it's totally subjective OR decide it's a mystical spiritual wonder that requires indepth calendar study to fully understand.
