It wouldn't take much, either. Just mention a brief visit to a grave, bring flowers, shed a tear or two. I get the feeling that Anita in her mind is very different from how she IS.
And a truly amorphous character ain't a good thing, changing only when someone asks the author "does she like custard donuts?"
