Thank you so much! I totally agree, chapter 28 took me FOREVER to slog through just because I got so freaking bored with the same argument running around in a circle.
Olaf's career choice did seem a bit sketchy. From what I know about the military (and it's admittedly little) they tend to weed out the people who have become unstable/murderous because they can't be trusted with weapons. If he speaks the languages, that's all well and good, but I speak French and you don't see anyone clamoring to have me in the French Foreign Legion or whatever :) I'm guessing LKH had to have him doing *something* and it seemed like a good idea to stick him where his talents seemed to work best, despite the fact that he kills people, clearly doesn't follow orders very well, and isn't all that balanced.
LOL kill me, fine, but making fun of me? That's going too far! Simply wouldn't be cricket, would it? I laughed so hard at that line, because really, if a freaking tiger has you by the neck, it's probably not the time to quibble that it hurt your feelings with insults.
