I kind of wonder whether she actually writes her novels in a NaNoWriMo spirit - I would try such pointless conversations when I truly have to write 50,000 words in a month and I'm stuck for ideas. Sure. But I wouldn't try and get that published.
I'm also toying with the idea that the whole 'kill me, but don't make fun of me' thing is Anita pointing out to LKH that there's no possible way she could die. Ever. Even in the jaws of a were-tiger she feels as home as... uh, I was going to make an analogy here, but given Anita, I think I'll skip that.
(I just finished reading Hugh Laurie's 'The Gun Seller', which pointed out that sarcasm does tend to drain away from a person genuinely afraid for his or her life (only he worded it a lot better). That line of Anita's just makes me flinch. I'd much rather people laughed at me than... say, chewed out my neck. But that might just be me.)
Of course, it kind of cheers me up when I read about MOAD. I mean, here we have a villain in the best traditions of evil villainy! Stupid henchmen? Check. Vague threats? Check. A lair with secret passageways and full of daft followers? Getting 'round to it, I suppose. I am happy that she is following in the footsteps of (most) every Bond/comic book villain (as well as Baron Silas Greenback, the arch-enemy of DangerMouse).
