Doesn't that sound like she's saying, "Well, of COURSE I write about sex and violence, just like authors who write for children do! But that doesn't make me a children's author!"
That's what it was! I'd been trying to figure out why that sentence was bothering me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. But that's exactly what it is.
