New Podcast & Flashpoint.

Our favorite Goffik Snowflake is in raunchy bold, whilst I, your humble host Lasher, am in regular.

We have a new pod cast up. Here’s the address so you can link to it. http://www.laurellkhamilton.org/Podcasts/podcast072108.mp3

I'm not touching that thing with a ten foot barge pole! I might end up having to listen to Laurell's actual voice.

We did a new format for the pod cast.
Interpretation: Jonboi +/- Darla +/- Charles had a BRIGHT IDEA and, out of the goodness of her heart, Laurell let them do “The Boy Thing” and fiddle with the technology.

We answered a few questions off the message board,
Probably not from “h8terz” I'll bet! And who's this “we”? Actually, don't answer that, I doubt my sanity could withstand the possibilities.

but we also talked about what we’re doing that’s new.
*perks up ears hopefully* Less sex? Fewer comics? A reduction in commas?

I think of the blog as the what I’m doing new, but apparently a lot of you have requested to hear about it in a pod cast.
The blog is “new”? In what context? Oh, and I can just about guarantee no-one from this site requested another podcast.

I don’t really think the dulcet sounds of my voice make the news all that much better, but if you guys do, then okay.
*contemplates the prospect of listening to Laurell discussing her raunchy, darkity, cutting-edge sex life with Jonboi – as opposed to merely reading about it*

*is seriously squicked*

We also announced the winners of our latest contest and did other new stuff. We’ll see what you guys think of some of the new format. If more of you like it, then we’ll stick with it. If you guys don’t care, then we’ll go back to just answering questions.
I can categorically state that I don't care. How about you, fellow Lashers?

Oh, and no loading the voting box. What do I mean by that?
Please, Great Sage of the Ages, tell us poor peons what it is you mean, for we are too dense, and literal, to understand.

Don’t vote if you like, or don’t like something, then come back on line as a different "person", and vote again. One opinion per physical entity please.
Damn! Now what am I going to do with my otherwise pointless day?

I’ve been meaning to mention a new show on CBS that Jon and I have really been enjoying. FLASHPOINT is a new cop drama. It’s the best researched I’ve seen.
And coming from Laurell, we all know what high praise that is!

There are moments of safety and protocol that I’ve never seen done in a fictional police show. Like, when a policeman shoots someone, even if it’s a good shoot, there is always a hearing of some kind.
Personally, I can't think of a single police/forensics show episode where the cops shoot some schmuck that they don't have a hearing...going all the way back to “Hawaii 5-O”, “Streets of San Francisco” and “Quincy”!

I cheered the moment that the police sniper put his safety clip around a metal piece before he crawled to the edge of the building.
It appears you expended all your energy cheering, so as to have none left to write this clearly. He put his safety clip around what now??

So nice to see the effort and the research on the screen.
Pity you don't take a leaf from their books then.

I love crime dramas, and I love them even when it’s more fiction than fact. Hell, I love CSI, even though I know that you could make a drinking game out of how many times they pick up, move, or mess with evidence in a manner that would make it useless in court.
Is that like the drinking game we invented? We have a shot each time the words “tight”, “wet” or “ardeur” are mentioned, and are guaranteed to be shitfaced after the first chapter of any AB book after Incubus Dreams.

But I watch the show faithfully, and just over look those flaws, as you sometimes over look the flaws of those you love. You enjoy their company even if they do have those irritating little habits.
Laurell's Laws For A Happy Marriage #35. Works best on long-haired ex-groupies, least well on blokes called “Gary”.

So far FLASHPOINT doesn’t have any irritating habits. Though the rookie did something in the second show that was pretty stupid, but I’ll bow to the whole rookie concept.
That's so generous, big hearted and understanding of you, Laurell! Be sure to let the show's producer know – I'm certain he'll be grateful for you overlooking his silly little mistake.

They are doing a nice job of showing that your job, even if you’re on a police tactical unit is to de-escalate the situation, not escalate it.
And here was I thinking their real job was to provoke pitched battles on suburban streets....

I need to go have a lie down. I can handle only so much condescension at any one time.

Nice flog, reading LKH makes me flail in an unhappy manner. It's just...unbelievable. I often hope that she's really being tongue in cheek, but I know she writes it in all seriousness. LKH critiquing other people's research, just mind boggling. >.< Thanks for the laugh!

Dulcet my frolicking ass. She has a voice like an ex-boss of mine, which tells you all you need to know.

"There are moments of safety and protocol that I’ve never seen done in a fictional police show."

I can't help but wonder if she considers Psych to be a police show.

"I cheered the moment that the police sniper put his safety clip around a metal piece before he crawled to the edge of the building."

I cheered the moment that the police sniper put his thing on the thingy metal thing... seriously, does it not matter WHAT metal part he puts the clip on? Or will any of them do?

"You enjoy their company even if they do have those irritating little habits."

... unless they refuse to grow their hair and quit their job for you, in which case it's another sign of self-hatred.

"They are doing a nice job of showing that your job, even if you’re on a police tactical unit is to de-escalate the situation, not escalate it."

Pray tell, is there any unit of the police force devoted to escalating a situation? Some sort of special squad for inciting riots and turning minor incidents into major ones?

I know an awful lot about guns and I haven't the faintest idea what she's on about with that 'metal piece' thing.
