It's so obvious now that you point it out. I thought the book was kind of lackluster (plot didn't show up until the middle, Ben's disappearance was a nonevent, the end kind of rushed and made the whole thing a really long prologue to the next book--but I enjoyed it nonetheless) but this makes up for it.
