From what I remember (I may have gotten some things wrong), one of Dominic's Orc friends named Melna who plays drums for his father's band comes across a man (Stonewater) from her childhood. Basically Stonewater was with her when during a contest between Melna's father and a rival over who'd get ownership of Melna's mom. The dad is killed in the duel when the rival cheats, the mother is killed when she attacks the rival and since Melna is an orphaned female, she is now considered useless by the Orcs (the race is very misogynist). So Stonewater convinces them to let him marry her so she won't die. The problem is that a husband is immediately go to some marriage tent, pretty much rape his new wife where a female will check her after wards, and if she isn't taken, she will be murdered for not "satisfying her husband." Torn between his admiration of Melna's father and Melna (who was 14 at the time) screaming and crying from seeing her parents murdered, Stonewater panics and rapes her.
Melna runs away, yet greets Stonewater with a hug and a smile when she sees him again (though I'll give Mookie the benefit of a doubt that since he doesn't plan his stories ahead of time, he hadn't considered the rape at the time), has "forgiven" him (though their relationship is very tense) and admitted to being sorta in love with him after seeing what a decent guy he is now. On the bright side, Stonewater's new girlfriend decks him when she finds out and he feels bad about what he did. Still it's portrayed as "Stonewater had no choice", Dominic (Mookie's author avatar) totally understands and forgives him to the point that he yells at a man who calls Stonewater a rapist.
