Today began my 6-8 weeks of concentrating on the physical instead of the mental. I worked out for an hour and forty minutes in the gym today, after weeks away writing. I'm already stiff and sore, which means morning is going to be far worse. I was just so glad to be in the gym again, and not having to be at my desk. Tomorrow is gonna hurt, but the results will be great, eventually.

Work/life balance, what's that?

Nothing is good for you in binges. Not writing, not working out, not food, etc. I'm aware that I really can't speak in absolutes as there may be some people who thrive on this and are perfectly healthy and happy; if it works for them, great. Everyone's different and I'm not questioning that at all. But for her, the whole "all or nothing" approach just doesn't seem to be working, from her increasing complaints (and sometimes unconscious warning signs she doesn't realize she's giving) about deterioration in various areas of mental and emotional health.

Wait. She only works for 2 hours per day? Seriously?

Sure that's long for a work out. But then, what do you do with the other 22 hours?

Working out for an hour and forty minutes after not working out for weeks is dangerous. Doing nothing but working for weeks is unhealthy, and I don't mean because there's no exercise in there, but because devoting your entire self to work is not a healthy thing. But it's clear that LKH greatly enjoys being unhealthy, both mentally and physically, or she would not treat her mind and body the way she does. The results of her physical activities will never be "great" any more than her books are.

Seriously. She needs a word of the day calendar that just says "BALANCE" every single day or something.

A two hour work out isn't all that bad... Provided that one takes it easy the first few times and gently ramps it up over time. That way you still get a little sore, but not incapacitated and you recover fully after a day or two. I don't think that's what LKH does though in her rush to be "better than you" in whatever it is this week. It just comes off as more self congratulation.

This. Completely. It seems to me that writing with some working out is healthier than all writing, then all working out. YMMV, of course, but it especially seems not good to spend the next 6-8 weeks solely focused on working out. Granted, that is what I assume she means by 'concentrating on the physical.'

Also, book comes out when again? There'll be no editing in that time? (I know, I know there won't, but I had to point it out.)

Marvel at how impossibly stiff you already are after 1 hour and 45 minutes of working out, even though you went months of neglecting your body to write.

But seriously. LOOK HOW STIFF AND SORE EVERYTHING IS. I AM SO PRO.
