My 40th high school reunion isn't for two more years, so I'm just a tiny bit younger than your mom.
LaLa's anecdotes always make it sound like she graduated from high school in 1951 instead of 1981. In fact my mom did graduate in 1951 and she went onto college, got her degree and was a teacher her whole life. The only time she didn't work outside the home was when the three of us were tiny. She eent back to work full-time when I was 3. My dad worked as well, but they were trying to support two sets of grandparents (both of whim lived with us) in addition to us three kids, so off to work mommy went. I think my mom might have gone back anyway sooner or later since she loved teaching. I know I'm babbling but my point is that even in generations before LaLa women worked outside the home, so her fantasy that most women's goal back in the day was to find a sugar daddy to marry is basically BS.
