Because my new editor and I decided we’d like the extra time.
Uh-huh. In other words, the editor probably told the publisher that one year was not enough to whip a book from LKH into shape, with all of LKH's foot-dragging and tantrums. Possibly this is Laurell's last chance; I wonder if she realizes that.
I love how she says she's not upset with her old editor for retiring and being able to enjoy herself, pinky swear she's not. Said through gritted teeth with a faker smile than that of the runner-up in a beauty pageant.
Change anything at that point from running out of the tea I’ve been drinking, the view, my chair, my desk, the computer I’m writing on or the software I’m using to write, my office pets, a lover having to travel – basically once the book is in the white, hot, heat phase, draw a circle of about fifty feet around me and everything within that circle has to remain the same or the book grinds to a halt.
This is pathetic. I need certain things to write -- unlike certain lucky people who can write through huge distractions, a room of my own is one of them. Which means kicking my husband out of the room when it's time to write. I have trouble writing in other software than LibreOffice too, now that I'm used to it, but that's hardly an issue: just put your software on the device you're using. Running out of tea? Are you kidding? And oh how very convenient that "a lover having to travel" is something that makes her unable to write. Translates to "Dance attendance on me or the bills won't be paid."
I also find it rather telling that her two modes are "20 pages a day" or "nothing." That's abnormal, and not in a good way. Pacing yourself is necessary for any kind of work. How someone in their 50s hasn't learned this... I guess she's been insulated by money and Jon, her husband Jon.
I’m usually a nice person
I've seen your books, twitter, and blog posts, lady. Pull the other one.
All this going on about the length of her novel. It was at least twice as long as it should have been; the entire first half should not have existed in any form. Length is not quality.
