Hamilton: I had been wanting to use that title for years. The first time, I was told I couldn't because Stephen King had a book out by that title. This time, I got the go-ahead. It is also the name of the dance club Jean-Claude owns.
Wasn't Stephen King's Danse Macabre
1. released in the mid-80's
2. non-fiction
?
Is there some weird copyright law I'm not aware of?

SK's is old and non-fiction (and probably better, LOL). I don't know about the copyright laws, though, I will say that this year, two romantic suspense contemporaries by bestselling authors had the same title of Don't Look Down from different publishing houses, so maybe it was that SK and LKH were using the same publisher or SK wanted his title protected...?

There's no copyright on book titles. Books come out in the romance genre with the same titles all the time. Sometimes in the same month.

I'm sure that marketing just wanted a different title.

Most likely it was just her publishers not wanting her to use the name. The Killing Dance was the book that she originally wanted to title Dance Macabre...

That's the way I heard it at the time. I also thought she'd titled it Danse Macabre somewhere overseas? Guess not, though, since they're using it for this one....
