[identity profile] sweetpirate.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] lkh_lashouts
Normally I don't read LKH's blogs--they're too incoherent, and frankly, I just don't care. However, I had to see what [livejournal.com profile] turtlemonkey was talking about in the last post, thus spawning my first blog flog.

http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/2006/08/death.html

On Friday we killed someone. Not a main character, because that breaks the promise. But someone we've seen over the course of more than one book. I wrote the death, but after seeing the injury I put it all off screen.

First--I think the entire 'we' thing is just creepy. I know it's been mentioned time and again, but still. Ick. She's all "(whine)we had to kill a minor character! Anita crys! I cry! Oh why cruel world??" but it's her own damn series and she's the one killing someone. I don't understand how, if it makes the series better (which really, anything would at this point), she can be so upset at killing a character. A) They're fictional, B) it might actually, hopefully, please-god-oh-please indicate a plot, and C) if Anita is the one writing the story, than the death is her choice!
Also, why am I not surprised that they only scene I might be interested (plot! I think I see plot!) in the next book is put off screen?

My imaginary friends need a break, too. A real break, like on paper, not just telling them okay, guys, go off and have fun, see you in a few months.

Ack. I find this whole 'imaginary people need vacations too!' thing just as creepy as buying presents for imaginary people. It also bothers me because I'm afraid we'd have to read whatever tripe she writes for a vacation--if they were my characters, I'd write them a vacation, toss it in a drawer, then move on with the series.

I don't think I'm capable of writing hundreds of pages of fun in the sun. No, eventually, I think of bodies on Anita the ground, or in Anita the ground.

Enough said.

It's no longer enough that Anita by killing the bad guy, saves lives. We'd like to be there saving the victims before hand, not cleaning up afterwards.

Can anyone actually remember the last time Anita actually killed a bad guy? Or even had to clean up after one? It's more like she just waves the snatch of dOOM at some men, there is *poof*sex-fu!*poof* and the problem is solved.

This death will not just be the loss of this character, but there will be emotional shit to clean up for books, not just in Anita's head, but in other character's minds, as well

God, all we need is insight into more of Micah's angst. Oh Nate's. Or Damien's. Oh, wait! Damien's still locked in the basement from Incubus dreams, isn't he? I didn't actually read DM, but it wouldn't surprise me...

All you people who wanted someone to die, I hope you enjoy it, because I have not.

Oh nos! I am have been sorely chastised by the heap big author of greatness! My impertinence in asking why NOONE has died in the past 13 books has been appropriately subdued!

Seriously though, I don't even know where to begin with that last bit. Although I really think she needs to re-introduce plot to the books, they are HER books, and if she reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally doesn't want to kill off a character, she doesn't have to. Not to mention she keeps saying how the 'nasty' things we tell her (less sex) makes her do the opposite (ID anyone?).

Hahah, I totally went to post this before I realized that someone else had to flog this same post. However, I still feel the need to share :P

That blog entry irritates me beyond all words, and I'm actually *glad* that it's been flogged multiple times. I just sort of stared at it and sputtered incoherantly, unable to turn my pissiness into coherant sentences. Thank you for doing that for me. ;)

And your point about when the hell the last time Anita killed a bad guy was is EXACTLY what I'm stuck on! WTF is she talking about?! Anita can't very well kill any bad guys when all they do is put in some random, half-assed metaphysical appearance in the final quarter of the book...only to be banished by Yet Another Orgy. UGH.

I'd like to be excited by the fact that she's finally killing a character off...but as everyone's been saying, it probably won't be anyone of much consequence. Or someone that we all knew was headed for it anyway, like Olaf. -_-

I'm glad we can share the same blog to flog. There certainly was enough in that horrid entry for us all to take a flogging to.

I also LOVE that you interpreted that bodies on the ground (anita) or in the ground (anita) the same way I did.

Or Damien's. Oh, wait! Damien's still locked in the basement from Incubus dreams, isn't he? I didn't actually read DM, but it wouldn't surprise me... I really hope not. He's the one character I wanted to swoop in and snatch from the series, and save. SAVE. SAAAAVE! I don't think I'm capable of writing hundreds of pages of fun in the sun. No, eventually, I think of bodies on Anita the ground, or in Anita the ground.
