I would post a URL, but Darla deleted her famous rant against every one and all. So here's only the copy:
------------------------
written by Darla, 14.06.2005:

The genesis of this board was to provide a place where true answers could be found. And what I mean by true is that previously on other sites, plain out and out lies where being told. My fav is still that Richard was dead in Obsidian Butterfly.

It came from someone who got an arc and decided to puff up his own importance by telling folks that Richard was dead. It wasn't true but it got spread around and caused an uproar. So we put up our own board to provide fans with a place to come. 99.9% of the people who come here are wonderful. They are intelligent, well read and have a good sense of humor. A few folks have taken the board as permission to be rude, obnoxious or down right mean. So easy to do when your anonomyous.

No, Laurell does not come out here. She barely uses the computer beyond word processing. She finds technology confusing.

We could take the board down, but then the minority of bad behaved people would win. And it is not like this is the only site on the internet where they can discuss Anita and Merry. So we let it run.

Besides, that minority is really loving the books Why else would someone read something they state they hate? Perhaps they are masochists and enjoy causing themselves pain or because they don't hate it. They like it, but at some level they don't want to like it and it makes them uncomfortable with themselves. They cannot accept that some part of themselves enjoys it. So they come out and try to trash others, the books and the author, who do not share their self-loathing.
Now they will really be posting like mad. Trying to convince the rest of us that that is not true. But you know what they say about those who protest too much.

Was I the only one who found this hard to read? Will these people learn to spell and form sentences?

And if someone's doing a lot of protesting, it's LKH-Team. Before they started defending themselves, calling certain opinionated former and current fans a 'hateful and petty minority' (among other things), we didn't have nearly enough things to rant about.

I failed to feel enlightened by Darla's psych analysis. It's down right laughable. Let's do a quasi analysis in return. Mentioning the word 'minority' on every possible occasion serves to:
a) Convince LKH that 99.9% of the people who read her books, like them;
b) Make members of said minority feel insignificant enough to stop expressing their opinions.
There's a third option, which would be lacking vocabulary, but let's try not to insult them. *cough*

In practice, minorities are harmless and not exactly notice worthy. But LKH-Team spends more time talking and doing things about that 0.1%, that even the 'faithful' are starting to become disillusioned.

They were the ones that started the whole 'us' vs. 'them' thing, probably hoping to get more support from the fans. And they did, in the form of "OMG!!!11! Haterz! Ban! Dun listen to them! You rock Laurell! I love your work, more Micah plz!!11!one!! LOLZ!"
The fact that we can express ourselves better than them should tell LKH something about the people who like her work lately.

Oh, so that's why she can never manage to find that spellcheck key!

These people obviously have no idea how the internet works. There are always trolls. Always! They probably have trolls there who have never read the books. They can't censor everyone. Geez.

Also, who is Darla? I'm still new, so I don't really know who's who yet.

MMhmm. Sounds like more LKH team doublespeak to me!

Oh, and as for the 81 year old grandpa below knowing computers? Him and my 70+ year old mom! :).

It's called classes, not excuses. It's also called being a professional, and not just taking your team's word for it. Or claiming ignorance down the road, via proxy.

I still can't get over this:

No, Laurell does not come out here. She barely uses the computer beyond word processing. She finds technology confusing.

Because it's IMPOSSIBLE for a college-educated person to learn anything as new-fangled as a COMPUTER, and courses for things like this don't exist.

Psht. My 81-year-old grandfather knows way more about computers and technology than I do (heck, I bought the computer I'm typing on from him!). It's never too late to learn new things.

Also, how the heck can anyone spread rumours about Richard being dead in Obsidian Butterfly? Wouldn't, like, the book itself disprove that? Aren't there millions of others reading the exact same thing? Or is Darla openly admitting than the fans really are that gullible and stupid?

Besides, that minority is really loving the books[.] Why else would someone read something they state they hate?

Three words: Train. Wreck. Syndrome.

Perhaps they are masochists and enjoy causing themselves pain or because they don't hate it. They like it, but at some level they don't want to like it and it makes them uncomfortable with themselves. They cannot accept that some part of themselves enjoys it.

.......... I. Just. There's. Okay.

1. Why do you care about their reasons for reading the books? Love them, hate them, they're still giving LKH money. They could buy them expressly to burn them and do a little dance around them, and it still wouldn't matter, so long as they bought the books.

2. If they love the books as much as you say, why are they bad-mouthing them so vitriolically? "At some level" they really love the books, so they say over and over again how much they suck? What is this, third grade? (If you really really like someone, trip them or kick them or punch them in the arm!)

In a nutshell: "If you don't like the books, there's something wrong with you! And even if you say you don't like them, then secretly you still do!"

And now the board has imploded, or at least been shut down for a little bit. Yay!!!!! I hope Darla never gets a moment's peace on that board.

I...uh...Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?

I can understand not liking using technology - my dad is a prime example - but this is why he sits at the computer and tries to learn how to use it. Granted, it's mostly for porn - which is why I refuse to tell him how to get out of trouble beyond alt+crtl+del because I know he hasn't got the patience to sit and go through the virus check, the bot check and then go looking in folders for stuff that might be hidden away, nor does he remember any of this - but at least he's trying.

I'll take a leaf from [livejournal.com profile] freyalorelei and wonder how the hell LKH got through a university without making friends with technology - because I know there's lecturers out there that refuse to accept anything that's not typed up. Also, it's good for research. I don't mean your standard Google-fu, I mean online journals and periodicals in the area that you're studying.

Oh well, there goes the last avenue of contacting the author and having a gazillion posts of, w3 luv u laruel! l0lz! - and the question remains, how will the party faithful get in contact with their beloved author and express their devotion?

Congrats, Darla. You and Jon have now effectively isolated Laurell from the OMG BIG B4D WURLD and thus any chance of returning to reality as we know it.

Can we stage a kidnapping and employ one of those people used for breaking brainwash prgramming? Please? I'd like my author back.

Simple. LKH actually would have gone to college just on the cusp of word processing versus old fashioned type writers. I believe she's a year or two older than me, and depending on where she went, yadda yadda, computers may not have been widely available.

AFTER college, however? NO excuse. She's a writer, for godsakes.

This kind of emphasizes my image of LKH overall appearing like a spoiled child. Technology ish too confusing!!1 Mommy, protect me from the big bad meanies!!

+Question+
I never spent much time on the boards, so I don't have a good idea of what 'self-loathing, masochistic' people she's talking about (which, by the way, is a completely ridiculous attempt at describing said people--I mean wtf). Could anyone give me an example of what the hell pissed the LKH crew off so much? I mean were there people just flat out saying "I HATE LKH!!!11" or what? It must've been something completely OFFENSIVE to have knotted their panties in a twist like that...but even then, why would they sink to their level by shutting down the boards just because of an 'insignificant minority' of 'meanies'? I thought they said they were never going to give these horrible people the satisfaction...? Darla, aren't you just FEEDING these masochistic anti-fans by doing this? Please...

Having seen these outbursts before, and what tends to generate them? No. It's not I hate LKH!!!!!111!, but more like:

Incubus Dreams lacked a viable plot.

Smut is fine, but we want a plot.

Etc.
