Oh my goodness, I've been looking for something like this for so long! I, too, long for the day when BadAss!Anita walks in with Edward to find Slutty!Anita screwing the flavor of the week, blows her head off, shrugs and says, "What, you didn't know that wasn't me?"

Well, I can hope.

I have a question I hope someone can answer for me: Who are the "alternate historians" and why have they seemingly disappeared? LKH used to thank them in the dedications of all the AB:VH books, until they started to suck. Is the disappearance of this group and LKH's slide into awful porn linked?

I thought the alternate historians were a group of people who got together to do "what if" fantasy scenarios for US history. Things like "What if vampires were real and we knew about them?"

I always thought their stories, or at least their brainstorming, would be nifty.

i'm pretty certain the alternate historians are LKH's writing group, that she was a much more active member of before the ardueuruer.

I think she lists them by name in one book. Sharon Shinn was the only one I semi-recognized, which probably tells us something right there.

She writes a mystery series. Can't remember much about them as I've only read two, but quite enjoyed them.

Ew! Ew! Sharon Shinn and LKH together in the same room? Talking about their books? Ew!!

Truly, that must be the source of LKH's suck. It wasn't the divorce and subsequent marriage to Captain Fanboy, it was Shinn all along! It just took eight or nine books before Shinn turned LKH to the Sue side! Oh, everything is so clear, now . . .

Hey! I like Sharon Shinn. Sure the angel books got a little repetative but it was Anne McCaffrey Meets Angels! What's not to like?!

Totally agree! I loved the random look at the religion on that planet too. ^^

But as much as I loved the "Angel" series none of her other work really grabbed me.

I was surprised to see her blamed!

...for some of us, the answer lies right there in your question.

Aw, man. I read Archangel and I couldn't stand it! The female lead was such a Mary Sue I wanted to smack her. The villain was lukewarm, and I don't remember much about the male lead but I wasn't too impressed with him, either. I was very disappointed, since the premise was so interesting!

I tried two of her other non-angel books and didn't like either of those. One was the sci-fi where she copies Jane Eyre and I didn't like it. Dry prose, boring characters, and I already knew the plot. Then I read Summers at Castle Auburn and that left me so underwhelmed that I literally couldn't remember a damn thing about the book - including whether I actually finished it or not.

"-it was Anne McCaffrey Meets Angels! What's not to like?!"

Will I get my fantasy geek member card taken away if I admit I don't like A McC, either? (Although I loved some of her books when I was younger.)

Xenoanthropology is one of my 'get me to read' things and wings are one of my bullet proof kinks. So it was win-win for me even though I could guess how everything would turn out. Plus there was music!

No, you don't get your card taken away for not like A McC. Lots of people don't like her. Though if you'd said you didn't like Andre Norton - you and I would have to 'talk' ;p

Pleasedon'tbreakmykneecaps!

I do like Andre Norton, actually! I think my dad would disown me if I didn't. He's already thinking about it because I don't like McCaffery.

My bullet-proof kink is merfolk and centaurs. Piers Anthony was my secret shameful addiction for many a year.

My dad introduced me to Andre Norton too. He didn't think much of McCaffrey but he couldn't believe I could be a proper sci-fi reader and not know Norton. My best memories of my dad are him and me in a bookstore just browsing and talking and building up stacks to buy.
