A reporter asked his opinion about his works being optioned into films, and how some fans thought they'd "ruined" the books. The author turned to deliberately look at the bookcase behind him -- particularly the shelf on which he kept his own stuff -- and pointed, saying "Ruined? They're right over there, they're still fine.")
