Wow, guys, thanks for all your answers on what Nathaniel should use as a pet name for Anita. I've skimmed them, but truly reading nearly 1,500 comments may have to wait until after I finish copy edits. *laughs* Seriously, overwhelmed by your enthusasim and how much you love my imaginary friends. A few of you suggested that Nathaniel wouldn't have a pet name for Anita & since nothing has worked, I'm going with that for this book. I'll look over your suggestions & post my thoughts later. We can use the nickname in a later book, if I find one I lke.

I will be at St. Louis ComiCon this Saturday only. Not only will I be doing a Q & A, but I thought I might read from first chapter of Affliction either before, or after some questions. I can't remember the last time I read at a con, but I thought you guys might enjoy it. Also, we are looking for an artist to help us do Lunatic Cafe as a graphic novel. Before someone asks, Brett Booth is currently under contract at DC, so we can't use him, but him being unaviable means some other artist has a chance to come play. Show Jon & I your samples, and be as serious about your deadlines as I am about mine, and lets do this.

I found a bunch of the Anita books in my friend's shed and she said I could take a few. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could tell me which book or books had the creepy Pedo-Anita/wimpy Nathaniel dynamic. I wanna read them for the squicky lulz. Thanks in advance!

So it's been a while since I've been here and even longer since I read an Anita Blake book, but I saw the The Harlequin on the shelf at my library last week when I really needed a brainless read. Not quite the best move. However now that I'm thinking about it I would like to be able clarify some of my issues. Sadly I can't remember where things are and before I work myself up with how much character x fails I'd like to know my memory of events is correct. So without farther babbling does anyone remember where Nathanial's and Anita's sexual relationship starts?

The first chapter of Flirt is available to download on LKH's site! It's 18 pages of unformatted, PDF joy.  According to the promo page, this is what the book is about:
When Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington, who is desperate to have her reanimate his recently deceased wife, she is full of sympathy for his loss. Anita knows something about love, and she knows everything there is to know about loss. But what she also knows, though Tony Bennington seems unwilling to be convinced, is that the thing she can do as a necromancer isn't the miracle he thinks he needs. The creature that Anita could coerce to step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be the lovely Mrs. Bennington. Not really. And not for long.
This just makes me think that Anita will stand on the edge of the grave and wave Scooby Snacks over it, or have a fishing pole with marshmallows on the hooks while she coos, "c'mon, if you don't get out of your grave, I'm going to kick your dog."

It also says this about the book's release date:

I had to ask someone just in case it was a strange American crazy vowel thing, but apparently not. Oh dear.

Title: Mouton Enragé
Spoilers: up to and including CS, but very general
Warnings: Not to be taken even remotely seriously.
Disclaimers: LKH owns the characters and the Anitaverse. The term actually was in the Weird & Wonderful Words page-a-day calendar. The fic is mine. My precious, my own! ;-)

Ok, first ever fanfic type anything--so I apologize if it absolutely sucks. And for the extensive use of the comma. And the ...'s.
Still. Yay for entertainment!

Title:Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
Spoilers: No real spoilers, as long as you know who each character is (Micah, Nathaniel, Raina)
Length: 507 words

A previous post that spoke of slang made me think about how Nathanial is totally not a beleivable street kid.

Even though he's out of the "lifestyle" he would still have some basic mannerisms and speech patterns of someone who lived on the street for most of his life.

I live in a liberal, not intimidating, fairly low crime area... And even here Nathanial would not survive. Throw in that he has to eat a lot to maintain his beast... And no. Not possible.

A friend of mine lived on the street for a while by choice. It was an expieriance the culture thing. She did it for about five months and she still has a "street mode", which is disconcerting to see her switch into at times. Nathaniel supposedly grew up in the streets... He would have this times a million.

But he doesn't.

There is nothing about him that reminds me of anything but an abused child... But even severely abused children that live on the streets are forced to at least ACT tough.

If LKH knew anything about street culture she would play with Nathanial's background for more then sympathy. She could make his character so much more colorful and less two dimensional with it...

You know... I think lately I'm starting to think that LKH comes up with really awesome characters... With good background stories(though all the stereotypical tragic) but just doesn't know anything about people that actually live with this stuff. I mean... Even if she just bought someone a meal and talked to them minimally... She would have a better feel for what Nathanial would actually be in the real world.

Is there such thing as character abuse? The woman should be prosecuted for neglet and overall ill treatment.

I couldn't resist playing along. Now, I usually consider my writing to be awesome, but it's been too long and I'm rusty, so it's likely sub par. I'm terrible at titles (so this has none), I haven't read anything from the series in over a year (in fact, last Dec., I sold all my books for food money!), and the only spoilers are, I guess, related to the fact that Micah *gasp* exists!

Spoilers: Again, up to Cerulean Sins.
Disclaimers: I don't own the characters. If I owned the Anitaverse, it would be a very different place.
Nota bene: This takes place after my Anita death piece. (And again, it was quickly written and poorly edited. Apologies.)

Just by chance, I went to the library today.
There were a lot of the Anita Blake books on the shelves, so I picked up Incubis Dreams.
Now, when I pick up a book... I have a habi of flicking to a random page.
So I did.
Several times.
Every single time it was a sex scene.
I read them out to my mate.
We were wetting ourselves laughing.
The description was terible...
The language use was worse...
And Nathanial should never have been described in that way!

"The matress made a meaty sound as his claws ripped through it"

How does a metal sprung matress full of sponge and fluff make a meaty sound?

(For reference, it was Anita, Jason and Nathanial in the bed, where every sentence had at least thirty "almost's" in it.)

Ye Gods!

Now I know why I never read anything after book eight... at least, not in its entirety, and definately not seriously!
