I can't remember what I was searching for, but my Goggle-fu failed and spat out a random profile of LKH.

http://www.nndb.com/people/229/000044097/

But it was the "Education" part that threw me most. Considering she cites her Bio degree whenever she blinks, I'm surprised I hadn't heard more about her having a BA in Latin and an MA in Classics. (Though it makes my soul weep. Latin is my geek language! She can't have it!) The site seems a bit outdated, but not by decades or anything. Maybe these are honorary degrees. *gags on the thought*

Then another profile says she went to Marion College (which, according to Wikipedia, is now Indiana Wesleyan University. But in an interview, she says "I have two degrees: English and biology." No mention of Latin or Classics.

The English degree makes me weep most. Why the hell did professors let her pass? Surely they must have seen the rampant grammar and punctuation errors that no decent English major should be committing.

ETA: Just for [livejournal.com profile] dwg, I'm gonna make a wank: I have a degree! tag.

Aww. I feel speshul now. XD

But srsly, WTF? "reinventing the genres" my ass. Pron has always been in the genres, you ninnies! ALWAYS!

Really, I feel like we've just caught her out lying on her resumé.

But it's FAAAAANTASY! the moment you write anything FAAAANTASY you're going to draw Tolkien comparisons as he, like, is the grandpappy of it all.

But we all know that LKH really pioneered it. Specially for teh wymynz rytahz.

I'm hoping that wasn't a comparison she made herself, unless she was using Tolkien as another word for "fantasy".

what a boob. i have a feeling that these "degrees" are just classes she's taken. I took bio in college too, but i don't insist i have a degree in it. I seriously doubt she quadruple-majored...she can't keep four plots straight in her head, let alone four demanding majors.

From the SF Site interview: The best thing I got out English at a college level was the introduction to the British Romantic Poets. I read Shakespeare, Victor Hugo, and a lot of the stuff they "force" you to read in junior and senior high on my own. I took my first stab at Plato in high school, because I wanted to try, not because of a class.

Um... not sure if she was just rattling things off, but I can't help myself. I hate to say it, Laurell, but Shakespeare and Hugo are most assuredly not British Romantic poets.

And did anyone else get the urge to congratulate her for reading all of those booooring classics on her own? [eyeroll] Wank wank wank.

Off-topic, but I have great (totally platonic) love for your icon. May I gank it (and do unspeakable things, but only because of the ardeur)?

Good God, 4 degrees and at least one of them an MA. I don't see them being real honorary degrees because if LKH got any honorary degree she'd have blogged it and have the pictures on her site.

There is no possible way this woman could have an MA in English. No way. Bad grammar makes English majors' heads hurt. We fly into rages upon seeing it's/its or you're/your and even their/they're/there used improperly. Comma splices cause us to pull our hair out. And too many misspellings makes us fall to our knees and cry "WHY, GOD, WHY???"

So unless she has another personality with some command of the rules of the language, this woman is an imposter. Pls to be getting out of my major, kthxbi.

Word. You don't dedicate that many years and that many thousands of dollars to the language without developing at least some care about its state.

Of course, I say that now and then look at the work of some of my once-fellow collegiates. The one put her Harry Potter Suefic up on her professional website as an example of her writing!

English is my third language, and her errors make me cringe. You wouldn't get trough secondary school with these, even if you're taking it as a foreign language, and the mere idea of getting a degree is... XP

If she has one in Biology, I will eat every hat I own (and I'm mildly obsessed with hats).

Do they give college degrees in "stupidology"?

Well, the Latin and Classics didn't come from Weslayan (at least not for a while anyway). Bio and English maybe.

Since it's a private Christian college perhaps her professors took a creative approach to Biology? I doubt it but unless they were letting her sleep through it and passed her to be rid of another student I really can't see how she made it through the program. ... and isn't LKH Catholic? At a private not-catholic college? Okay, I know they do diversity,.. huh. Maybe this explains her ongoing sense of indignation and the high horse she refuses to get off of.

I want to know where those degrees are coming from.

She "knows" Latin? Really?

Then she used the term lupa all this time, knowing its actual meaning (i.e. bitch, quite literally)? Or was she trying to make a reference to Romulus and Remus without noticing the humorous alternative interpretation?

Do you have any doubt she knew exactly what lupanar and lupa meant? Considering how she's recharacterized Richard and every female werewolf who wants to be lupa, I imagine the insult is deliberate. If not deliberate, at least appropriate for her world.

Hm, Anita referring to herself as lupa might have been a warning for the plotlessness of the last books...
While I can see the term being used to refer to "the Ulfric's bitch", I have more problems with accepting someone who feels insulted when someone politely holds a door for her but doesn't mind calling herself a bitch. It doesn't make much sense.
